The children were using coloured skittles during their play. They initially used a ball to knock the skittles over.  One of the adults introduced a large wooden car and the children replaced the ball with the car to knock over the skittles.  This kind of play encourages maths and numeracy skills as the children can talk about concepts like:

  • how many skittles fell over?
  • how many are still standing?
  • how many yellow ones are there?
  • Are there more blue or red ones?
