20 Years of World Book Day – Thursday, 2 March 2017
World Book Day, in partnership with schools all over the country, will be distributing more than 15 million £1 World Book Day book tokens to children.
When you get your book token, all you need to do is to take it to your local bookseller and swap it for one of the TEN books being sold at £1.
We are currently planning a number of exciting activities to mark World Book Day this year. We invite you to take part in any or all of the following suggestions:
To celebrate reading at home, take a picture of you and your child or your whole family reading. Tweet the picture and tag us @Mearns_Primary. We will retweet and share these pictures at assembly.
Bring your favourite book into school on World Book Day
Come to school dressed up as your favourite character on world book day
Write a short story or poem to share with your class
Today we were lucky enough to have Judo instructors in today to demonstrate a mini workshop in Judo. We teamed up with 3.12 and participated in some really cool Judo moves. We were given letters with information on how to join and also where and when these sessions take place. Most of the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Please click on the pictures below to see the picture in better quality and please see the letter that each child got for further information.
On Sunday the 26th of February, Mearns Primary are hosting a competition in collaboration with The Avenue. This will take place between 11am-4pm and will consist of a treasure hunt with some fabulous prizes up for grabs. There is also a prize for each child who participates and completes the treasure hunt.
Parents Evening slots can be booked from Monday 20th February until 1st of March. The two dates available are Tuesday 7th March and Thursday 9th March between 3.30pm-6.30pm. Emails and letters will be going out soon and the booking system will be live from Monday evening.
I look forward to meeting you all.
Welcome back boys and girls! I hope you all had a lovely holiday and are happy to be back to school.
Some of the children explained that they could not get onto Kahoot so I have added the link as you need to click on this first to login before you can play.
Some information for Term 3 which begins on Monday 20th February 2017. The children will now have P.E. on Monday and Wednesday’s and we will be undertaking athletics and gymnastics this term. Our science topic will be Space and our IDL focus will be on Our Local Area.
We have had such a busy day today! I know we enjoyed it but we really need our holiday so we are glad it is here!
We used a fabulous website called Kahoot. This was a super exciting and challenging Maths activity which we did individually on iPads. Below are some pictures. We had a great time and I have even created one for 3.11 so if you wish to use it (which I would advise as it gives you an indication of how your child did) here are the details:
When you log in, go to the top where it says my kahoots. Click on the quiz called 3.11 and press play. The children can either play it on the computer or any tablet/phone. They know more than I do sometimes so they should be able to help you here.
We then made some lovely little pop up cards for Valentine’s Day. We know it is a little early but we hope you like them. Here is a picture.
The picture quality can be quite poor so to get the best version of it, please click on it to enlarge.
I hope you all have a very relaxing break and I look forward to seeing the children again.
