Final blog post by Miss Pervaiz

Hello everyone,

I am so overwhelmed by the number of gifts I’ve received and how lovely it has been to have so many parents come to me and wish me well on my way!

Today is my last day and I’ll be leaving with a heavy heart as I’ve really loved teaching 3.11 and they’ve all got a special place in my heart.

Many thanks

Hello,

Many thanks for the kind donations given for Red Nose Day!

Here are two pictures of the children posing for a picture.

A little reminder for Easter bonnets and solo talks to be brought in and prepared for Monday. The Church Service is on Tuesday so sensible clothing for all weathers will be needed.

Happy weekend!

Wednesday 22nd March 2017

Good Morning,

Mr Howie joined us this morning to introduce new features to us. We used the Chromebooks however you can use any device, including Apple products, at home to use these features and we would be encouraging the children to do so.

The main feature of today’s learning was Yammer. Yammer is a controlled social media group for ONLY the class and nobody else can contact or speak to the children. It can only be used by 3.11 and myself. We learnt a lot and some of it was quite confusing but once we were on, it was great! The children were very excited. Please not this should only be used in an appropriate manner and not for general chat amongst the children. Our main goal is to put our solo talk powerpoints onto glow through Yammer and that is all.

Step 1: Log onto Glow. This can be used on ANY device and the children require usernames which are in their diaries and passwords which they know as it is one that we use in school.

Step 2: Next, you click onto the Orange tile named Office 365 Home.

Step 3: Then, you will see a range of tiles and to get onto Yammer, you click on the ‘Y’ which is on the tile and has Yammer written below.

Step 4: On the left hand side, you will see an area titled Glow Scotland Groups. Beneath that is the Group named P3.11 Mearns. This is the group the children MUST ONLY access as this is where they can view and see their class.

To add your Solo Talk PowerPoint to Glow, you must follow Step 1-4 and then the following:

Step 5: On the right hand side, you will see a section titled Info. Below this is a link which will direct the children to 3.11 Solo Talk Folder where they can drag and drop their PowerPoint or they can upload it to this section.

Reminder: The local area homework is due on Friday 24th March along with spelling and the Solo talks must be prepared for Monday 27th March along with the Easter bonnets. I will clear a space In the classroom for these.

Many thanks,

Miss Pervaiz

Monday 20th March 2017

Good afternoon,

I have shared quite a lot of information with the children today and thought it be best to write it on the blog to share with parents and carers too as it is likely the children did not remember everything!

For Friday 24th of March:

Spelling homework is due as normal and there is also social studies homework relating to the local area which will help the children to prepare their solo talks for  Monday 27th of March.

Friday 24th March – Red Nose Day:

The children are invited to dress in red for Comic Relief. The suggested donation is £1. We will be taking part in a range of activities throughout the day.

For Monday 27th March:

The children must prepare a solo talk about their favourite place to visit in the local area (Glasgow and the south). This must last around 5 minutes and PowerPoints/flash cards/pictures are welcome. The children have all got a letter today about this.

Also for the 27th March, the children are to create and make their own Easter Bonnet/Hat! It will be entered into a competition which will be judged by the management team at the school on Tuesday 28th March after the Church Service. The children also received a letter about this today.

Sumdog:

The children are taking part in a Maths challenge against other classes and school’s in East Renfrewshire. 3.11 are doing very well and at the moment we are in the top 10! We want to do even better so the children have been issued with usernames, passwords and school codes to play the games at home. This will also help the children with their mental maths. This competition runs until Thursday 23rd March.

Scooting Challenge:

This is the final week for the scooting challenge and we have noticed that the number of children who scoot or walk to school is decreasing. As it is the final week, we are hoping for a push in numbers to beat the other P3 classes! We record the number of children who have walked, cycled or scooted everyday using tally marks.

Many thanks,

Miss Pervaiz
