Learning Together – At Home

Many of our parents have asked for ideas to support their children’s learning at home. In response we have created the Learning Together calendar.

The calendar, which will be released every month, will contain a suggested learning activity for each day of the month (which can be done in any order). Across the month the calendar will explore a range of curricular areas. How many activities will you and your child complete together in March?

We would love to hear all about your home learning journey and ask that if you take any photos of the activities you do that you put them in your child’s snapshot book or give us a copy to add to our Learning Together celebration wall.

Look out for the display area in the main Nursery corridor for more ideas on supporting learning at home and for the launch of our Rhyming, Reading and Numeracy bags.

Dams to Darnley Visitor

We were lucky this morning to have a visit from Joe, one of the Countryside Rangers from Dams to Darnley. He told us all about the animals that he protects in his job. We saw bats, buzzard wings and a herons leg bone.

The environment needs to be right for the animals to flourish so the park has long grass, ponds and wooded areas.

We learned about food webs and lots of interesting wildlife facts. Did you know that some bats can eat up to 3000 midges per night!

Thank you Joe!

Technology

The children have been showing a great interest in all things linked to technology and to support and extend their learning we are developing a new technology area within the nursery.

As a taste of things to come we have added a small engineering table where the children can use real tools to take apart different appliances. We have been learning so much about the ways things work.

We can’t wait to unveil our new technology area!

Learning Together – Writing

Today we welcomed families into the Nursery to explore writing and the opportunities for supporting the development of writing through Learning Together at home.

We looked at:

Gross and fine motor development

Scissor skills

Pre-writing skills

Emergent writing

Then the children joined us and the fun began! We played lots of different games and took part in a number of activities that all help build the skills necessary for successful writers.

If you were unable to join us for our sessions today and would like to know more about developing the skills for writing please speak to Mrs Sobocinski. Our next Learning Together sessions are focusing on reading and are on Wednesday 4th March.

Hope to see you there!
