Senses

We have five senses that help us to explore and make sense of the world around us. They are:

Touch

Taste

Sight

Sound

Smell

Lets look at the different ways we can explore each one.

Touch

Find items of different textures around you home or garden and think of good words to describe them

Play with playdough/gloop/slime or cooked and cooled pasta

Place liquid paints into sealed bags and try some colour mixing

Try making cloud or moon dough

Bake bread

Taste

Try a new healthy food today, what does it taste like?

Combine different fruits, vegetables and juices or milk of your choice to make a smoothie

Cover your eyes and ask an adult to give you different foods, can you tell what they are just by taste?

Sight

In a room of your choice or the garden take a good look around and draw, write or talk about what you can see

Fill a container with rice and small objects to create an eye spy bottle

Play a game of Whats Missing

Sound

Sit in your garden and close your eyes, what can you hear?

Use different items from around your home to create different sounds

Ask a family member to play you their favourite piece of music

Listen to a book on CD

Smell

Add water to different powdered food items and use them to paint, try hot chocolate, spices, gravy etc

Which of the flowers in the garden have a scent?

Story Writing

Anna has been showing a real interest in telling stories and asked her mummy if she could write a book.

Mummy wrote down everything Anna said. Anna then drew pictures to help tell her story about a poor little unicorn.

Anna’s book is now her favourite bedtime story. Well done, Anna! 📝

Busy Little Bee

Chloe has been in Caddoc’s Woods exploring, cycling, finding and hiding rocks for Mearns Rocks. She even spotted a heron the other day! Looks like the garden has been lots of fun as well.

We have also heard that a romance has blossomed between two of your bears and that they went out for an ‘Italian’ last week and then got dressed up to the nines on Thursday for #clapforcarers.

Loving your art and crafts as well, Chloe.

I’m a Little Teapot

I’m a Little Teapot

I’m a little teapot,
Short and stout.
Here is my handle,
Here is my spout.
When I get all steamed up,
Hear me shout.
Tip me over and pour me out!

I’m a very special teapot,
Yes, it’s true.
Here’s an example of what I can do,
I can turn my handle into a spout.
Tip me over and pour me out!

Activities

Throw a tea party for your family or for your toys.

Count how many teacups or mugs you have in your home.

Act out the nursery rhyme.

Draw and decorate a picture of a teapot.

Fill a teapot with (cold) water and see how many cups you can fill from it.
