National Smile Month – Week 5

This week we are thinking about healthy eating and making food together with our families.

Activities

Look through recipes books to find some healthy recipes

Help an adult search online for recipes

Plan some healthy meals for the week

Write a shopping list for the ingredients

Remember to wash your hands and to follow the hygiene rules

Use your maths skills to help with the weighing and measuring

Challenge!

Set and decorate the table/picnic blanket so you can enjoy the food you have made with your family

 

It is important to remember the three key messages of National Smile Month:

 

  1. Visit your Dentist regularly, at least once per year.
  2. Reduce sugary foods and drinks and restrict them to mealtimes.
  3. Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes with a toothpaste containing at least 1000pm fluoride.

 

Nature

Today we are going to explore nature!

Activities

Lie in the garden and listen carefully, what can you hear? Do you hear birds singing and bees buzzing?

Use natural materials to build an insect hotel

Take a bark rubbing of a tree

Count how many different types of leaves you can spot

Draw a picture of flowers in your garden

How many different types of birds can you find

Hunt for different insects under stones and leaves, which types can you find?

Spot and identify three different butterflies or moths

 

Money

The last few months have seen most shopping trips being paid for through contact less payments. Today it is time to freshen up our money skills, hunt out all the loose change you can find and prepare to have fun!

Activities

Sort your coins into groups of the same coins

Place a 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p on the table then stack 1p coins next to them to show their increasing value

Name all the coins

Play the toy shop money game

Set up up a shop, remember to price all the items and then let your family come and shop

Challenge!

Ask your parents to help you set up a snack stop with snacks that cost different amounts. Then ask them to give you a daily budget. Then shop for snacks within your budget!

 

Water Safety

Good weather means that we may be spending more time outside and it is important to always keep safe. Today we are thinking about how to keep safe around water.

Activities

See if you can spot all the hazards in this water safety game 

Tell a member of your family how to keep safe around water

Use natural materials to create your own mini pond or river scene

The next time you are near water, see if you can find the safety equipment and look out for any real life hazards

Pushing and Pulling

Pushing and pulling are opposite forces and today we are going to explore them in the world around us.

Activities

Walk around your home looking for things that you would push or pull each day, some examples are light switches, doors and zips

Welcoming a Baby

Welcoming a new baby into the family is an exciting time, today we are going to think about the different ways people welcome babies into their families and the different things that babies need to keep them safe, happy and healthy!

Talk to your family about the different ways they welcome babies into the family

Draw pictures to show the different items babies need

What things can you do to care for a baby?

Design a sleep suit for a new baby

Spend time taking care of a baby doll or other much loved toy
