Safer Internet Day – Fake News

In P6 we decided to learn more about ‘fake news’ for safer internet day 2021. We looked at the definition of fake news and the reasons why some internet sites choose to deliberately create and spread fake news. Fake news can have a lot of consequences on society if we do not learn to identify and disprove it.

As a follow up task p6 were shown a clip from the Harry Potter films of Rita Skeeter, a journalist for the Daily Prophet, interviewing Harry. She deliberately exaggerated and made up information in her article to cause controversy. We concluded that her articles could not always be trusted and that she would not be considered a reputable source due to her actions!

We then had a go at writing our own newspaper articles based on an incident that happened at Hogwarts. The Success Criteria asked the pupils to write an article that was accurate and did not contain any exaggeration or misinformation. Have a read at some of the examples below!

Minecraft Challenge ๐ŸŽฎ

The pupils of 6.24 were given another extension task today involving volume, factors, multiplication AND Minecraft!

They were tasked with creating rectangular prisms with particular volumes. Lots of problem solving and some trial and error was involved in this activity.

Here is a video below of Zain creating pairs of rectangular prisms with the same volume but different dimensions:

Kyle has also completed this task and has created four rectangular prisms with different dimensions that all share a volume of 40 centimetres cubed:

Volume and Minecraft ๐ŸŽฎ

In maths 6.24 are learning how to calculate the volume of shapes. As an optional extension task the pupils were tasked with creating cubes and cuboids on minecraft and then had to calculate the shapes volume.

Kyle was eager to challenge himself with this extension task and even created a screen recording of himself playing minecraft and calculating the volume of the different rectangular prisms he had built.

Gallery Website

Hi Everyone,

We have been working hard in P6 to find and use different sites for showcasing and sharing our work during home learning. We have had a go at using Jamboard and Padlet but we have now started sharing pieces of work on a class website using google sites. The pupils can create and personalise their own page within the class site where they can add images of their work and textboxes with information. Have a look at the GIF below for a sneak peek of our site!

6.24s Art Gallery โ€” Watch Video

We plan to add to our site regularly so that there will be several pieces of work to look through on each page. Click on the link below to view out site! The pupils are in complete control of uploading any work they choose to share.

Burns Padlet

Hi Everyone!

We have started using Padlet in 6.24 as it is a great way to showcase work in the one place! We had a few optional Robert Burns task we could complete today.

Have a look at what some of us created in celebration of Burns day!

How Plants Benefit Society ๐ŸŒฑ

Hi Everyone,

6.24 were tasked with investigating ‘how plants benefit society’ and had to create a presentation to display their findings. Everyone worked really hardย  to make sure their presentations were informative and professional.

The pupils were give an impressive success criteria to meet so that they could challenge themselves to use different functions on PowerPoint/Google Slides. We would love to share all of the presentations on our blog but there just wouldn’t be enough space. ๐Ÿ™

I have shared a few presentations in the link below so that you can maybe learn more about how plants benefit society!

Thank you for visiting! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐ŸŒฑ

Snow

Today 6.24 were asked to embrace the snowy outdoors, to take a break from their screens and enjoy the fresh air. Isaac managed to make a start on building an igloo, let’s all hope there is more snow overnight so that he can continue this project tomorrow!

Here are some other lovely pictures that children from 6.24 would like to share of them playing in the snow!

Wonder

Yesterday we finished our class novel we have been reading called โ€˜Wonderโ€™. Instead of having a Christmas movie treat for our last day of school in 2020 we decided to watch Wonder in class! We have thoroughly enjoyed studying Wonder and a lot of learning has stemmed from the novel.

We have looked at bullying and analysed the morals of the characters in Wonder. We learned about genetics and inheritance because it was mentioned in the novel and we were interested in learning more about it. We have also learned about โ€˜preceptsโ€™ and discussed the importance of the precept mentioned in the novel, which is:

โ€œwhen given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kindโ€.

We made an effort to make small acts of kindness more visible and celebrated in 6.24. We have a compliments box in our classroom and every week children can write a post it note to someone to recognise something kind they have done. It is a simple and lovely way to show appreciation and it puts a smile on everyoneโ€™s when we read them out at the end of each week.

Healthy eating competition winners!

Last week the Health Committee hosted a healthy eating challenge. The challenge was to bring in a healthy snack for break and the class that had the most healthy snacks that week would win a cooking lesson in the kitchen.

We were so excited when we were announced as the winners last Thursday afternoon and we are certain our cheering travelled down the P6 corridor, if not further…

We got to prepare and bake our own breakfast scones which were delicious. Have a look at the focused and happy faces below of some of us in the kitchen! ๐Ÿ™‚
