World Book Day ๐Ÿ“š

Hello everyone!

We celebrated World Book Day over Google Meet today where we played a World Book Day themed Kahoot quiz, shared our favourite books and some of us decided to dress up as famous characters from books!

Throughout the week some of the pupils of 6.24 have created different things in celebration of world book day. Some pupils created 3D models of famous scenes from books and other pupils decided to create ‘fan pages’ on Google Sites!

Check out some of the google sites by following the links below:

Financial Education ๐Ÿ’ธ

6.24 have received a series of lessons on financial education over the last month. The pupils have really enjoyed learning about money and banks. This week the pupils were tasked with creating their own bank, they had to create a name, design a logo and decide which services their bank would provide.

Whilst completing this today Olivia asked if she could create a google site for her bank. This inspired both myself and some of her fellow classmates to do the same and create a website for their bank! Such a creative way to reinforce their learning and digital skills! ๐ŸŒŸ

Sophie also made her own site and even designed a debit card! Click on the GIF below to view her website.

An outstanding example of pupil led work!

Safer Internet Day – Fake News

In P6 we decided to learn more about ‘fake news’ for safer internet day 2021. We looked at the definition of fake news and the reasons why some internet sites choose to deliberately create and spread fake news. Fake news can have a lot of consequences on society if we do not learn to identify and disprove it.

As a follow up task p6 were shown a clip from the Harry Potter films of Rita Skeeter, a journalist for the Daily Prophet, interviewing Harry. She deliberately exaggerated and made up information in her article to cause controversy. We concluded that her articles could not always be trusted and that she would not be considered a reputable source due to her actions!

We then had a go at writing our own newspaper articles based on an incident that happened at Hogwarts. The Success Criteria asked the pupils to write an article that was accurate and did not contain any exaggeration or misinformation. Have a read at some of the examples below!

Minecraft Challenge ๐ŸŽฎ

The pupils of 6.24 were given another extension task today involving volume, factors, multiplication AND Minecraft!

They were tasked with creating rectangular prisms with particular volumes. Lots of problem solving and some trial and error was involved in this activity.

Here is a video below of Zain creating pairs of rectangular prisms with the same volume but different dimensions:

Kyle has also completed this task and has created four rectangular prisms with different dimensions that all share a volume of 40 centimetres cubed:

Volume and Minecraft ๐ŸŽฎ

In maths 6.24 are learning how to calculate the volume of shapes. As an optional extension task the pupils were tasked with creating cubes and cuboids on minecraft and then had to calculate the shapes volume.

Kyle was eager to challenge himself with this extension task and even created a screen recording of himself playing minecraft and calculating the volume of the different rectangular prisms he had built.

Gallery Website

Hi Everyone,

We have been working hard in P6 to find and use different sites for showcasing and sharing our work during home learning. We have had a go at using Jamboard and Padlet but we have now started sharing pieces of work on a class website using google sites. The pupils can create and personalise their own page within the class site where they can add images of their work and textboxes with information. Have a look at the GIF below for a sneak peek of our site!

6.24s Art Gallery โ€” Watch Video

We plan to add to our site regularly so that there will be several pieces of work to look through on each page. Click on the link below to view out site! The pupils are in complete control of uploading any work they choose to share.
