Innovating our School for the Future๐Ÿ’ก

We have been super busy in 6.24 since returning to the classroom. We have been working on lots of STEM tasks which involved a lot of problem solving, collaboration and creativity. The theme of British Science Week and Mearns Primary’s STEM Fortnight was ‘Innovating for the Future’. We were tasked with redesigning our school to make it ‘pandemic proof’.

Before we got started on our tasks we had the opportunity to learn more about architecture. A parent at Mearns Primary very kindly prepared a presentation about her job as an architect and was able to answer some of our questions about some of the current trends in building design. We learned that modern buildings should: enhance natural light, incorporate flexible spaces, be sustainable, bring the outside in and most importantly should be inclusive. We had a lot of discussion about these design features and the ways in which a building could include these features.

The class worked in six groups to innovate the school’s gym hall, street, corridors, classrooms, playground and toilets. After listing the pros and cons of these current spaces, we researched how we could innovate these spaces for the future. We discussed sustainability, wheel chair access, light tunnels, bi-folding doors and OF COURSE automatic hand sanitizers! ๐Ÿ˜‚

After many lists and drafts sketches were created we finally created a poster and brochure capturing our ideas, research and designs. Have a look at some of our creations in the gallery below!

World Book Day ๐Ÿ“š

Hello everyone!

We celebrated World Book Day over Google Meet today where we played a World Book Day themed Kahoot quiz, shared our favourite books and some of us decided to dress up as famous characters from books!

Throughout the week some of the pupils of 6.24 have created different things in celebration of world book day. Some pupils created 3D models of famous scenes from books and other pupils decided to create ‘fan pages’ on Google Sites!
