This week we took some time out to read for enjoyment. To help us relax and focus on our books, we made out own book nooks both inside and outside. We came up with all sorts of creative spaces to read.

We have been learning about fractions this week in Maths. Some of us made our own lego fractions to show how we can work out fractions of shapes.

In music this week, we listened to Elgar’s  Enigma variations. We had to think about someone we were missing and what piece of music reminds us of them. Here are some pictures of the people we are missing.

Some of us made story cubes this week. These cubes are a fun way of sharing with others about what we have been reading. We have to think about the setting, the characters, our favourite part of the book and make predictions about what will happen next. We had lots of fun making these.

We were remembering how to say our names and how old we are in French this week. Some of us made some beautiful french bunting to show off our French skills.

We were all very sad to be missing Sports Day this week at Mearns Primary but we have tried to recreate some of the fun at home with some virtual sports day activities. We’ve had the fruity press-up, the tea bag toss and some welly throwing going on!! 

This week on Google Classroom, we have been looking again at symmetry. We made our own symmetrical pictures and patterns at home. Some of us used objects around the house, some of us used paper and coloured pencils and some of us created our patterns digitally. Here is some of our fantastic work.

We have been exploring the features of 2D and 3D shape on our Google Classroom.

Look at these fantastic 3D shapes that we created using spaghetti and marshmallows. A bit sticky, but lots of fun!

As part of our learning for sustainability, we have started an Ecobrick Project. It is the perfect thing for working on at home as it takes a while to fill your ecobrick with enough plastic. You must squash down as much waste plastic as you can into a plastic bottle. It’s pretty hard work. We hope that when we get back to school we will bring all our ecobricks together and create something for our classroom.

We have started our new Social Studies topic on our local area and land use. Our task was to go on a walk near our house and make notes on the key features and the way the land was being used. We then created our own maps that show the walks that we took.
