STEM Clubs ๐Ÿงช

If you are thinking about running a STEM Club, there are resources readily available to support.

The Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT) have resource packs to support running STEM clubs in primary schools. Packs include:

  • An overviewย of how to run the sessions with a list of simple, everyday materials needed
  • An activity sheet giving the club leader guidance on organising the activities; including a practical challenge for the learners, key facts, ideas for questions and further activities
  • A fact sheet with some club packs for children to take home for further learning with family.

  • Earth Explorers – A series of science activities that consider aspects of environmental science, aimed at children of lower primary school age (5-7 years).

๐Ÿ”ป 9-12 Year Olds

  • Challenge Chasers – A series of science activities aimed at children of upper primary age.
  • Engineering Our World – Aย series of activities which use famous scientists, engineers and artists as a springboard for group-based engineering activities.

๐Ÿ”ป Additional Support Needs

  • Sensory Sparks – Science focussed specifically towards pupils with additional support needs (ASN).

CREST Awards

CREST Awards also provide challenging and thought provoking real-world STEM projects for young people of all ages which are ideal for running a STEM club. CREST entry fees are government subsidised in the UK and start at ยฃ1 per learner. Where cost is a barrier to entry, funding may be available. Find out more here.

There are six CREST Award levels. To choose the right one, consider the age and ability of your learners and the time they have available to do the Award. The age descriptions for the Award levels are only suggestions as all Awards are open to all ages.

โญ Star Award (3-7 Years Old)

  • Perfect for 3-7 year olds who are starting their STEM journey.
  • Time to complete: 6-8 x 1 hour challenges
  • Entry fee from ยฃ1 (inc. VAT) per student

๐ŸŒŸ SuperStar Award (7-11 Years Old)

  • Typically for ages 7-11 years old; most suitable for upper primary students who are looking for a challenge.
  • Time to complete: 6-8 x 1 hour challenges
  • Entry fee from ยฃ1 (inc. VAT) per student

๐Ÿ” Discovery Award (10-14 Years Old)

  • A one-day STEM project perfect for encouraging students to explore student-led work.
  • Time to complete: 5 hours
  • Entry fee from ยฃ3 (inc VAT) per student
