Open Doors Event 28 March 2017

Construction is one of the most important, dynamic and varied industries in the UK and on  28th March 2017, Kier Construction will open the doors of the William McIlvanney Campus to the public.  This will give people a rare chance to see what goes on behind the scenes of a big build.  Organised by the Build UK and Go Construct, the aim is to highlight the vibrancy of the industry and the numerous and varied roles within construction.

Places are limited and must be pre-booked by following this link.

Project Update – March 2017

The construction of our new school continues and staff have been visiting the site with interest.

Kier Construction, our lead contractor, are now in week number 53 of a 108 week build programme and are still on programme to hand over in March 2018.  They have commenced internal fit out on all floors—with erection of partitions & installation of mechanical & electrical services.  The envelope is progressing well and we expect the build will be wind and water tight by early April.

Timetable Structure

Following lengthy consideration and taking account of a range of views, I am writing to confirm that the new Kilmarnock Academy will follow a 33 period week. As a result, and in order to ensure a smooth transition, a 33 period week will be adopted by both James Hamilton Academy and Kilmarnock Academy for academic session 2017/18.

This will require an asymmetric week, with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday having a start time of 8.50am and finish time of 3.35pm and Thursday and Friday having a start time of 8.50am and a finish time of 2.45pm. These arrangements will commence at the timetable change at the beginning of May 2017.

Head Teacher Appointment

To: Parents/Carers of Pupils at Kilmarnock & James Hamilton Academies

I am delighted to announce that Mr David Rose has been appointed as Head Teacher of Kilmarnock Academy in the McIlvanney Campus which is due to open in 2018.

Mr Rose will be known to staff and parents from both the existing Kilmarnock Academy and James Hamilton Academy as he has spent part of his career in each establishment.

Mr Rose will take up his duties immediately and will lead the preparations for the move to the new campus and the necessary preparations for bringing the two learning communities into one new education group.

I am sure you will join me in wishing Mr Rose every success in his new post.

Yours sincerely
