Our mini-topic this week is based on the story called ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson!<\/p>\n

Literacy \"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

Make your own snail trails!  See if you can make a giant snail trail on the ground outside for someone to follow.  You could use homemade water-based paint (LINK), salt, chalk, biodegradable glitter or anything else you can think of that will leave a trail.  Experiment and see if you can make the letters of your name without breaking your trail!<\/p>\n

Numeracy \"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

Size Sorting:<\/p>\n

In the story of The Snail and the Whale, the snail is super small and the whale is super big!  Why not go on a scavenger hunt around your house and gather as many items as you can, some big and some small.  Can you sort the items into two piles?  A BIG pile and a small pile!   Maybe next you could try ordering some of your items from smallest to BIGGEST!<\/p>\n

In the Twinkl Go! lesson area, there is an action and rhyme PowerPoint.  See if you can copy the actions and chant along to the rhyme together!<\/p>\n

Here<\/a> is a link to a Big and Small song on YouTube.  Can you make up some actions to go along with the song?<\/p>\n

We have started to take part in short and simple yoga sessions in class.  Here<\/a> is a link to a yoga session based on the story of The Whale and the Snail.  Why not have a look and join in whenever you can?  \"😊\"<\/p>\n

Art & Design \"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

Can you create a spiral shell?  You could use a paper plate as your shell and any craft materials you might have (if you don’t have any craft items then why not use leaves or stones from outside)to make a spiral pattern.  Start in the middle of the plate and work your way round and round to the edge of the plate!  Make the head of the snail from coloured paper, newspaper or even an old bit of material folded into shape!<\/p>\n
