<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UKjjFh7dQsg\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UKjjFh7dQsg<\/a> I have thought of some space and alien themed activities for you to take part in at home that link nicely to our story &ndash; remember to only do what you can &nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/12.0.0-1\/72x72\/1f60a.png\" alt=\"&#128522;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080610\/Word-Sort-ABC-Literacy-PRESCHOOL-300x256.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"49\" height=\"42\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We sometimes remember the names and order of the planets in our solar system with a helpful mnemonic such as: &lsquo;<strong>M<\/strong>y<strong> V<\/strong>ery<strong> E<\/strong>vil <strong>M<\/strong>onster <strong>J<\/strong>ust <strong>S<\/strong>cared<strong> U<\/strong>s<strong> N<\/strong>uts&rsquo; The first letter of each word reminds us of each planet name.&nbsp; Your challenge is to order the planets using objects you can find around the house that begin with the same letter sound.&nbsp; (You can include dwarf planet, <strong>P<\/strong>luto, if you wish!)<\/p>\n<p>Find something that begins with M, V, E, M, J, U, N and P.&nbsp; Can you put them in that order?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numeracy <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080603\/numbers-300x256.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"47\" height=\"40\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Twinkl have a wide variety of free games.&nbsp; I have linked 3 Space-themed&nbsp; interactive number games<\/p>\n<p>Type the following into your web browser: <span>Twinkl.co.uk\/share<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Use the code <strong>LW4518<\/strong> to access the games in the &lsquo;lesson 18.1.21&rsquo; section.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080601\/healthy-300x256.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"71\" height=\"61\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Practise cutting skills and healthy eating with this interesting activity.&nbsp; Use different sized fruits to identify and compare the sizes of each planet!&nbsp; If you can get to a supermarket, try using fruits you may not always have at home and experiment with different flavours.&nbsp; With any left over pieces, why not create a fruit rocket?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080721\/Fruit-Rockets-300x271.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"271\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080722\/Planets-Fruit-2-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080726\/Planets-Fruit-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science, Engineering and Technology <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080606\/space-science-300x256.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"62\" height=\"53\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Have fun with any boxes, recycled cartons or bottles, toilet roll holders, Tupperware and tables or&nbsp; chairs &ndash; anything you can find &ndash; to see if you can build your very own rocket ship!<\/p>\n<p>Here is an example:<\/p>\n<p>Explore the moon with this animated story by Eric Carle: <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sGqAw7UM6qo\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sGqAw7UM6qo<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Why does the moon have craters on it?&nbsp; Craters on the Moon&nbsp;are caused by asteroids and meteorites colliding with the moon&rsquo;s surface over millions of years.&nbsp; Explore this concept using a mixture of cornflour and baby oil to represent the moon surface and pebbles\/stones to represent the meteors. &nbsp;Here are the instructions for you to follow: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/18080918\/Science-Experiment.pdf\">Science Experiment<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Addition activities and resources available<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Glasgow Science Centre have created a YouTube playlist called &lsquo;Our Place in Space.&rsquo;&nbsp; It has lots of fun videos that guide us through the solar system.
