{"id":5823,"date":"2021-01-11T11:22:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-11T11:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/2021\/01\/11\/remote-learning-activities-week-1\/"},"modified":"2021-03-26T14:17:46","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T14:17:46","slug":"remote-learning-activities-week-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/2021\/01\/11\/remote-learning-activities-week-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Remote Learning Activities \u2013 Week 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good morning, Beech!&nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/11111619\/Hi-300x256.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"32\" height=\"27\"><\/p>\n<p>This week in the Beech class, Mrs Wilson and Mrs McCreath will be doing a topic called &lsquo;Feed the Birds&rsquo;.&nbsp; To tie in with some of the activities the class will&nbsp; be doing in school, I have thought of some activities you can do at home!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In class we will be reading a story called &lsquo;The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark&rsquo;.&nbsp; Here is a link to the story on YouTube if you want to listen, too.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4FcxGheSihk\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4FcxGheSihk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A good idea for practising letter formation and fine motor skills is to make a sensory tray.&nbsp; Fill a wide and shallow tray or dish with fine sprinkle materials &ndash; we suggest bird seed this week if you have any!&nbsp; But any kind will do.&nbsp; See if you can trace out the different letters in some bird names such as &lsquo;O&rsquo;, &lsquo;W&rsquo; and &lsquo;L&rsquo;.&nbsp; Alternatively, you can practise filling, scooping and pouring using different cups and spoons, this helps hand-eye coordination and motor skill development.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/11111226\/bird-seed-writing-tray-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Draw a simple set of owl templates in different sizes onto bits of card or paper.&nbsp; A family of three would be perfect!<\/p>\n<p>While out in the garden or on your daily walk, gather a variety of leaves and twigs.&nbsp; Now, see if you can make the owl&rsquo;s feathers with the leaves and twigs!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can you make a baby owl with 3 leaf feathers?<\/li>\n<li>Can you make a Mummy owl with 6 leaf feathers?<\/li>\n<li>Can you make a Daddy owl with 8 leaf feathers?<\/li>\n<li>How many twigs does it take to cover an owl?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing\/Life-Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Owl Toast Recipe!&nbsp; You don&rsquo;t have to stick to the exact ingredients &ndash; get creative!<\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/11111334\/Owl-on-toast-recipe.pdf\">Owl-on-toast-recipe<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Art and Design&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are the instructions you can choose to follow to make a very simple bird feeder!&nbsp; Don&rsquo;t worry if you don&rsquo;t have the exact products, you can improvise!&nbsp; Use the RSPB website to check that the products you use are bird-friendly though! <span>https:\/\/www.rspb.org.uk\/birds-and-wildlife\/advice\/how-you-can-help-birds\/feeding-birds\/safe-food-for-birds\/<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2021\/01\/11111306\/toilet-roll-bird-feeder-craft-instructions.pdf\">toilet-roll-bird-feeder-craft-instructions<\/a>&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please remember that these activities are optional.&nbsp; Be kind to yourself and only do what you can.&nbsp; please feel free to send us any photos of your young people enjoying their time at home.&nbsp; Note that blog activities will be posted here every Monday morning, as well as any instructions for our Vscene activities for the week.&nbsp; Take care and be safe.<\/p>\n<p>&ndash; Miss Woodburn<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good morning, Beech!&nbsp; This week in the Beech class, Mrs Wilson and Mrs McCreath will be doing a topic called &lsquo;Feed the Birds&rsquo;.&nbsp; To tie in with some of the activities the class will&nbsp; be doing in school, I have thought of some activities you can do at home!
