{"id":3060,"date":"2020-05-25T11:40:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-25T11:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/2020\/05\/25\/weekly-home-learning-6\/"},"modified":"2020-10-09T12:54:37","modified_gmt":"2020-10-09T12:54:37","slug":"weekly-home-learning-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/2020\/05\/25\/weekly-home-learning-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Home Learning (6)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi everyone,<\/p>\n<p>Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week.&nbsp; Given the extraordinary circumstances in which we find ourselves at the minute, I couldn&rsquo;t pass up the opportunity to address this topic.&nbsp; Below is a list of <strong>suggested <\/strong>activities that I found, which focus on recognising and experiencing emotions, mindfulness and kindness.&nbsp; There are lots of ideas, this is so that hopefully there is at least one suggestion that will be suitable or fun for you <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/12.0.0-1\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#128578;\"><\/p>\n<p>Here is a touching story to introduce the topic of emotions.&nbsp; It&rsquo;s called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UmrUV8v-KQg\">&lsquo;<span>Lucy&rsquo;s Blue Day.&rsquo;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you have the Pixar film &lsquo;Inside Out&rsquo; give it a watch or take a look at this Youtube <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yRUAzGQ3nSY\"><u>clip<\/u><\/a>. Some of the task suggestions are based around the colourful characters within this film.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make a healthy &lsquo;Inside Out&rsquo; themed snack!&nbsp; I suggest a fruit kebab.&nbsp; Help to pick out some fruits that are the same colour as; <span>joy<\/span>, <span>sadness<\/span>, <span>disgust<\/span>, <span>fear<\/span> and <span>anger<\/span>.&nbsp; With the help of an adult, dice the fruit and choose the order you would like them to appear on the plate or skewer.&nbsp; Enjoy!&nbsp; (Which feeling was the best flavour?)<\/li>\n<li>P.E\/Drama Game.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Watch this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dOkyKyVFnSs\">clip<\/a> of film and do these actions every time you see&hellip;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span><em>Joy<\/em><\/span><em>: Star jumps or wave you hands in the air.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span><em>Sadness<\/em><\/span><em>: Curl up into a ball or hide your face<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span><em>Anger<\/em><\/span><em>: Stomp your feet and shout out!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span><em>Fear<\/em><\/span><em>: Make a scary face or run away!&nbsp; <\/em><\/p>\n<p><span><em>Disgust<\/em><\/span><em>: Make a yucky face and wave your arms in a disgusted way<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Make sensory boxes &ndash; Fill up a box with things that make you feel happy, sad, angry, excited or worried.<\/li>\n<li>If you have or can obtain the following resources, make a sensory stress ball! Resources: Red, green, blue, yellow and purple balloons (you need 3 or more of each colour), scissors, Flour, plastic bottle, funnel, black sharpie\/marker.&nbsp; &nbsp;Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.muminthemadhouse.com\/pixars-inside-out-stress-balls\/\">here<\/a> to find out how to make your own stress ball.<\/li>\n<li>Practice mindfulness. This is something that we were slowly starting to incorporate to class routines as a way of encouraging us to slow things down and just &lsquo;be&rsquo; when things get a bit too much.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Xq3DwzX6MUw\">Here<\/a> is a video of a familiar furry friend teaching us how to belly breathe &ndash; a key relaxation technique.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twinkl.co.uk\/resource\/senses-mindfulness-challenge-cards-t-tp-7255\"><u>Here<\/u> <\/a>is a link to a range of senses-based activities where the focus is to concentrate on a particular sound or feeling which almost tricks your body into relaxing!&nbsp; In class, we really respond to lying on our backs on the floor and watching feathers fall slowly from a height, the classroom would become so peaceful.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>Beech Team challenge: Guess which emotion we are all representing in our #stayathome collage!&nbsp; Who is sleepy?&nbsp; Who is sadness?&nbsp; Who is representing fear?&nbsp; Who is feeling happy?&nbsp; <u><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/wbank18beech\/uploads\/sites\/8695\/2020\/05\/25112955\/Emotions-Collage.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"><\/u><\/li>\n<li>Create a &lsquo;Things to Look Forward To&rsquo; jar. Here is a link to a nice craft activity that focuses on positive thinking by encouraging us to think about all the things we are looking forward to doing when lockdown restrictions are safely lifted.&nbsp; It helps us to remain goal orientated.&nbsp; &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twinkl.co.uk\/resource\/wellbeing-craft-things-to-look-forward-to-jar-t-tp-2549511\"> Link here.&nbsp;<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week this year is <span><strong>k<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>i<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>n<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>d<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>n<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>e<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>s<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>s<\/strong><\/span>. Take some time this week to think of someone you would like to cheer up or simply make smile.
