{"id":7927,"date":"2024-01-21T18:42:37","date_gmt":"2024-01-21T18:42:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/?page_id=7927"},"modified":"2025-11-19T20:46:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T20:46:10","slug":"24-medical-matters","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/24-medical-matters\/","title":{"rendered":"Medical Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong><u>Medical Conditions and Medication<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s essential that you let us know of any particular medical conditions or requirement(s) your child might have.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many of our pupils will require medication to be administered as part of their daily routines.\u00a0 Families should also keep the school informed of medication or other medical requirements pertaining to their child.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">If medication has to be given in school, parents MUST sign specific forms giving details of administration and their permission prior to any medication being given.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Only medicines which have a pharmacist\u2019s label with the child\u2019s name and medication dosage\/instructions will be administered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">If there are any special procedures to be followed with regards to epilepsy, asthma or anaphylaxis, the school must be informed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Healthcare in Education Policy can be read <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/uploads\/sites\/9377\/2019\/08\/21135641\/HEALTHCARE-IN-EDUC_.pdf\">here<\/a>. Parental medical consent form are available <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/uploads\/sites\/9377\/2024\/02\/19110357\/HCP2.docx\">here<\/a>, or by request from the school office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The administration of prescribed medicines in an educational establishment is a matter for the discretion of the Head Teacher.\u00a0 If the Head Teacher agrees to administer medicine at the establishment, and a member of staff volunteers to do so, then they are required to exercise reasonable care to avoid injury. \u00a0In return, the Head Teacher\u00a0is entitled to the full co-operation of the parents in helping to observe safe practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong><u>Illness and Injury<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every care is taken to ensure pupils are safe and secure at all times.\u00a0 However, it is inevitable that accidents can and do happen in schools.\u00a0 In the event of a child becoming ill, having an accident or seizure in school, the Head or Depute or Principal Teacher will decide on the action to be taken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every effort will be made to contact the parents\/carers or emergency contact to inform them of the situation.\u00a0 Should hospital treatment be required, an ambulance will be called and a member of staff will accompany the pupil, and remain there until the parent arrives.\u00a0 Any special instructions or procedures should be notified in writing to the Head Teacher.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Minor accidents will be dealt with by a First Aider: Miss Miller (Senior Clerical Assistant), Mr Campbell Caldwell (Depute Head Teacher), Miss McCreath (Principal Teacher), Mr Nicoll (Teacher) or Mrs Vernon (Classroom Assistant).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">All accidents and incidents will be recorded by staff on Learning Journals and shared with the family.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please let the school know of any change in your contact information, any change in a child\u2019s medical condition and of arrangements we should make should your child become ill, or need to be taken home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Medical Conditions and Medication It\u2019s essential that you let us know of any particular medical conditions or requirement(s) your child might have.
