{"id":7903,"date":"2024-01-21T18:18:25","date_gmt":"2024-01-21T18:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/?page_id=7903"},"modified":"2025-03-06T20:45:01","modified_gmt":"2025-03-06T20:45:01","slug":"24-enrolment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/24-enrolment\/","title":{"rendered":"Enrolment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">At Willowbank School we recognise that transitions throughout school can present greater challenges for pupils with complex additional support needs.\u00a0 We also recognise that transition into school and particularly transition from school into adult services are difficult, emotional and often worrying times for parents and carers of a child with a disability.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong><u>Enrolment<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All pupil enrolment is coordinated by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/eapsychservices\/\">Psychological Service<\/a>\u00a0through a robust process. \u00a0The school is unable to directly enrol any young person at any stage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">When it is identified that a young person would benefit from a specialist provision, a full assessment is carried out by members of a multi-disciplinary team at the pre-school stage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parents\/carers are involved in this and kept informed at all stages.\u00a0 The professional opinions are then collated by the East Ayrshire Psychological Service and the recommendations are discussed with the parents at a Pre-School Assessment Team (PRESCAT) meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The parents\/carers then consider options available and obtain all the relevant information which will help to inform the decision of the school or centre their child will attend. \u00a0If the child is transferring from an Early Childhood Centre, the Depute or Head Teacher would usually visit the child at the centre to confirm that Willowbank would be the most appropriate placing. \u00a0There is also the opportunity for the children to visit as part of a transition programme to prepare them for school in August.<\/p>\n<p>Placement at all East Ayrshire schools is subject to the current roll and spaces available. \u00a0Willowbank&#8217;s current capacity and roll can be viewed <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/willowbankschoolkilmarnock\/24-school-profile\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parents seeking to place a pupil outwith August enrolment should contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/eapsychservices\/\">Psychological Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you enrol your child, their birth certificate will be needed. A copy of this will be taken and the original will be returned to you.\u00a0 We do this to comply with the terms of the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 and to help determine who has parental rights for a child.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">For children born <em>after<\/em> May 2006, if both parents are named on the birth certificate, then both have parental rights and we will record both names on our system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental rights are different for children born to mixed-gender couples\u00a0<em>before<\/em> May 2006.\u00a0 In this case the father will only have parental rights if he is named on the birth certificate <em>and<\/em> if he was married to the mother at the time of the child\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">A child\u2019s name cannot be changed and a parent cannot be removed from the system without written consent from all parties with parental rights for the child.<\/p>\n<p>For all enrolment queries, please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/eapsychservices\/\">Psychological Service<\/a>\u00a0directly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At Willowbank School we recognise that transitions throughout school can present greater challenges for pupils with complex additional support needs.\u00a0 We also recognise that transition into school and particularly transition from school into adult services are difficult, emotional and often worrying times for parents and carers of a child with a disability.
