Weekly Home Learning Tasks

Hello, everyone!

Literacy

As February is LGBT+ History Month, I thought we could celebrate by listening to a story called ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors’ by Julia Donaldson.  The story teaches us the importance of being true to who we are inside, even if you are a princess!  Here is a link a reading of the story book and here is a link to an animated version of the story.

Can you remember what the doctor used to make his magic medicine?

Your challenge is to make your own medicine using the toys or items around your house!  Can you find 5 items that could have a magical medicine ingredient?  Something with a tail, feathers, scales, hairs, horns, nails or even just items from your kitchen fridge or cupboard!

  • What colour do you think your medicine will be?
  • Do you think it will taste good or bad?

Numeracy ECO challenge

Design and build Princess Pea’s castle using 2D shapes!

Try to collect as many empty bottles, lids, (flattened) boxes as you can this week and see if you can arrange them into the shape of a castle.  A typical castle made out of 2D shapes is shown below.

Please feel free to email photos of your finished castle to willowbank.school@eastayrshire.org.uk 😊

Health & Well being

As February is LGBT+ Awareness Month, you might see a lot of rainbow flags flying proudly! Do you recognise this one?

We would like you to listen to this story by Anna Llenas.  The story highlights how different colours can represent our different moods.  Have a think about where the different mood monsters would feature in Princess Pea’s story?

Which colour or mood monster represents the princess at the beginning of the story when she is flying through the air doing the job she loves?

Which colour or mood monster represents the princess when she is told that she is not allowed to be a doctor anymore?

For bonus sensory activities and games related to the Colour Monsters, visit https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/sign-in and use the passcode:  LW7685

It’s Fairtrade Fortnight!

Here is a Fairtrade Activity Sheet for you to complete if you wish!

Please remember to do as little or as much as you wish 🙂  Take care and stay safe.
