Seven Golden Rules for Participation

The 7 Golden Rules for Participation are a set of principles that can help anyone working with – and for – children and young people.

The Golden Rules can remind Scotland’s adults what children and young people want from participation. They can also help children and young people to think about how adults can support them to participate.

The rules have been developed by the Children and Young People’s Commissioner through consultation with children and young people from across Scotland. Research into participation has also been used to help make the rules as good as they can be.

At Willowbank, all staff, visitors and volunteers use the 7 Golden Rules when working with pupils.  The rules are on display in all classrooms and shared areas and the principles for which they stand are embedded in everyday practice.
