Rebound Therapy

Willowbank School is a host venue to deliver Rebound Therapy – a fun exercise and mobility programme that uses special trampolines as alternative ways to encourage movement, exercise and recreation.

It is specifically designed for those with a range of additional support needs and training courses are currently being offered to school staff by pioneer, Eddy Anderson, Rebound Therapy founder and his team Paul Kaye and Rachel Silk.

The programme helps pupils with movement, promotes balance, improves muscle tone, relaxation, sensory integration and improves fitness levels.

In addition it is a gentle and effective form of fun exercise, which also has beneficial effects on communication skills and self-confidence.

Willowbank has already hosted three training sessions with a pilot programme planned between April and June with 2 additional training sessions planned for October and March.  For more information on how to book places, contact info@reboundtherapy.org or tel: 01342 870543.

Head Teacher Tracy Smallwood said: “Rebound Therapy is a different way for our pupils to enjoy exercise and help them with their movement.

“Many pupils have not experienced the thrill of being on a trampoline, the rush of being weightless for a few seconds and the sheer joy of bouncing up and down.

“But once they’ve had that experience, it soon becomes a highlight and really helps them with movement, co-ordination and communication. The curriculum can be delivered through the context of the trampoline. It’s also an enormous amount of fun!”

Councillor Stephanie Primrose, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning added: “Rebound Therapy is a simple, but fantastically clever idea.

“It opens up a new set of experiences for young people with some very acute needs, offering something different to other exercises and sport.

“The effects can be transformational and I’m really excited about the possibilities we will soon be able to offer our pupils over and above the outstanding work we already undertake with our Additional Support Needs pupils.”
