Monday the 18th of May

Hello everybody!

The weather isn’t quite as nice this week is it? Never mind, the rain is needed to let plants grow (and it gives us a nice excuse to be indoors for a change!). The Transition team hope that you are all well and looking after each other.

It’s careers week this week so the task that I have suggested are all linked to different jobs. There are some suggestions for activities at home and some videos to watch that tell you about different jobs. I wonder what your dream job is? It can be anything you like. Why don’t you draw a picture of you doing your dream job and share it with us? My dream job would have to be Explorer. Imagine all the places you’d visit and the exciting things you’d see!

The link to activities is here

Stay healthy and be kind to each other.

Mr Nicoll

Name Art

Good Morning 🙂

Todays activity is all about our names.

Write out a letter of your name, or your full name for an extra challenge. You can ask an adult to help with this part.

Next collect some different resources from your house or garden.

Use the materials to make the shapes of each letter.

Have a look at our work below for some examples. What letters can you see?

Weekly home learning activities

Hi everyone, Hope you are well.

I hope you enjoyed the activities last week and helped out at home doing some different jobs.  This week we have lots more fun activities for you to try.

Activity 1 – Music

We love exploring different musical instruments in class. Do you have any instruments at home? Explore the different noises they make. Don’t worry if you don’t the ladies and I have been very busy making our own instruments. Watch the video to find what materials around the house we used to make our own musical instrument.

Activity 2 – Numeracy

Numbers are everywhere in our environment in our house and outside. Create you own number scanner by cutting a whole in a bit of paper or card. You can then explore your house or the outdoors on your daily walk having a number hunt. How many different numbers can you see?

Activity 3 – Art

This week I made my own chalk paint to create pictures on my patio. The great thing is you can wash it away with water and create more or wait for the rain to wash it away. Just add a small amount of water to some tablespoons of cornflour then add some food colouring and mix. Then use a paintbrush to draw your pictures outside. The possibilities are endless.

Activity 4 – Health and wellbeing

The ladies and I had lots of fun creating a bowling game in our garden. Watch the video. 🙂

You can create your own it can be indoors or outdoors. You can make it with anything bottles, cans etc and then use a ball or an orange to see how many you can knock down. Play as a family and see who can knock the most down.

Activity 5 – Health and wellbeing

This week we decided to work on spreading skills. You can make a meal all your family will enjoy – a pizza 🙂 Mrs Russell had fun making pizzas with wrap for her lunch. Mrs Adair didn’t quite have the ingredients so she improved and made a dessert option. She spread chocolate spread on a pancake and the used other ingredients to create a face – she is very creative.

Weekly Home Learning 5: Work Experience

Hi, everyone.

It’s Careers Week!  We have found some fun activities for you to try out at home that explore the different jobs people do.  Have a try at some of the activities and decide which job you think you think you would be good at!  Start off your week by reading a story together and having a think about the different jobs people in your family do.

Here is a nice and funny story that explores lots of different vocations. 😊

Activity 1 *Chef*

Why not find a simple recipe online for you to make or bake together?   You can learn about the serving side of the business too by helping to set the table and carry the pates or cups over to the table.   BBC Good Food’s ‘Millie’s Cookies’ recipe is one of our favourites to use – here is a link to the recipe and online tutorial.

Activity 2 *Postman/Postwoman *

A random act of kindness and a job opportunity all in one – why not draw a nice picture or get an adult’s help to write a kind message to post to some of your neighbours?

If you are out a walk, how many big, red post-boxes can you find?  Do you know where your local post office is or what the Royal Mail logo looks like?  Google it to see if you can spot it!

Activity 3 *Firefighter*

This is a really fun idea but you will need lots of adult help! You will also need a garden and a garden hose.  Why not set up some ‘targets’ (empty plastic bottles for example) around your back garden and see if, with some help, you can knock the targets over using just the water hose!  It will give you a good idea of the skills a firefighter might need to use in their job.  How many targets could you knock over?

Activity 4 *Engineer*

The following are examples of STEM activities.

Engineers are professionals who invent, design and build lots of different things.  Have a go at being an engineer by constructing a den or boat from household objects!

  1. See if you can build a den using any materials you can find! Boxes, bottles, chair cushions, old sheets, anything will do!
  2. Here is a link to the STEM ‘tinfoil’ boat challenge. This link includes a list of resources and a step-by-step guide to the challenge.

Activity 5 *Dentist*

This link takes you to a fun activity that looks from a dentist view at keeping teeth clean!  I think it could be very adaptable, all you need is the bottom cut off of a plastic 2ltr bottle, an old toothbrush and either just use toothpaste or make your own white paste with 1 tsp of baking soda with water mixed together.

As always, these activities are only suggestions and you are under no obligation to do all or any of them.

Have fun and stay safe – there is nothing more important than that.

[Keep an eye on the blog through the week as the Beech class will post our own work experience challenge ♥]

Can you go on a hunt around your house and find the following things…

  • 1 TV
  • 2 clocks
  • 3 pillows
  • 4 cuddly toys
  • 5 books
  • 6 doors
  • 7 spoons
  • 8 lego/building bricks
  • 9 socks
  • 10 coins

Activity 2 👀

This task involves you going around the rooms in your house and counting the total number of items. In your house, can you count how many….

Doors you have?

Windows you have?

🤔 What do you have the most of? This is your biggest number.

🤔 What do you have the least of? This is your smallest number.

Activity 3 🚶‍♂️👣🚶‍♀️

During one of your daily walks, can you try and spot the numbers 1-20 in your local environment? These might be door numbers, road signs, times shown for collections on post boxes, car registration plates etc.

Remember all of these activities are optional and can involve you working together with your siblings and/or parents. Have fun! 😃

I can see a rainbow! 🌈

Good morning everyone!

This week the art challenge is all about rainbows. There are lots of rainbows around reminding us to stay safe.

Follow the link below if you would like to try growing you very own.

Alternatively, you may wish to create a collage rainbow. If you don’t have access to coloured paper or paint, then why not use recycled material like empty cereal boxes, crisp packets, magazines, bottle tops… whatever you have!

There is colour all around us, brightening up our day and making us smile.

Take care and stay safe.

Mrs. Macdonald. 🎨 😊

Top potato 🥔

Hi everyone , hope you are all well and enjoyed last weeks task and you are looking after Peters seeds well. 😃
The weather hasn’t been so nice this week but hopefully you are still keeping busy .
Anyway this week challenge is a creative one . Sticking with our theme I challenge you all to make a potato person , just like ‘Mr potato head’ only better ! So use anything you like to decorate it and ask a grown up to help you with tricky bits , you can use fruit , vegetables , flowers , twigs , arts and crafts supplies just experiment and see what you like … remember a good place to start is to look in a mirror at the features you have like a nose 👃 eyes👀 , ears 👂 and mouth ,then try and give you potato person the same .

To help you out I asked all the ladies in the class to make one for you all to see . What you think ? Do they deserve a thumbs up 👍🏻?

As always if you complete the task send a photo to Mr Campbell and he will let us see them or put them on the blog .

This week in the Snowdrops we have a birthday girl . So all the ladies would like to wish Rachel a very Happy Birthday 🥳 🎂 for Thursday xx enjoy your celebrations 🎉

Be the best you can be!
