Lunch time club – October 2021
Work on the Visual Tales project has restarted at Kilmarnock Academy. Pupils have joined a lunch time club to work on their animations, live action and stop motion films.

Movie making workshop – Wednesday 26th February 2020
Pupils took part in an all-day workshop in the library at the end of February to learn skills to help to produce a short film. We looked at what factors to consider when making a film, we learned camera techniques and we had a go at shooting a five-shot film. We even had a go at stop motion animation. Our next task will be to use what we’ve learned to produce a five minute long film of our own. Pupils can attend a lunchtime club in the library on Wednesdays to get together with their group and work on their story idea.

New Graphic Novels Hit the Shelves! – January 2020
Our new graphic novels are now labelled, catalogued and ready to be borrowed! Here’s a sneak peak of just some of the titles.

Neil Slorance Workshop – 21st January 2020
Neil visited to work with a small group of our S1& S2 pupils. We learned how to draw faces and show our characters’ emotions by changing the style of their eyebrows and the shape of their mouth. We drew five faces and added features to show our character happy, sad, angry, sleepy and bored.

We then made a list of AWESOME things. We used these for our next task which was two choose two awesome things and mash them together to create a character. For example we had a Butterfly/Woman a Cheese/Pizza, a Banana/Man and a Sandwich/Ninja.

Neil then helped us to make a four-panel comic featuring our characters.

Exploring Colour – December 2019
To get ready for our workshop with Neil Slorance, a group of our S1 and S2 pupils started looking at comic books. In particular, pupils looked at how artists use colour in their work.

We saw that colour can be used to show when a part of the story is in the character’s memory or imagination. Colour can also be used to show mood, the time of day, a change in scene or the passage of time. We looked at examples of each. Pupils then gave it a go themselves and were asked to use colour to show time passing or a change in mood.
