About the Project

Visual Tales is a joint initiative between the East Ayrshire School Libraries supported by the Scottish Government School Library Improvement Fund (SLIF). The project aims to promote and encourage visual literacy skills in learners, through developing existing interests and targeted engagement.

The first stage of the project introduces learners to two main visual story telling formats, comics and film. The focus will be on the similarities within these formats, building vocabulary, confidence and supporting learners in being able to better express themselves.

Once they have gained confidence and experience the project will introduce learners to the creative process by engaging with individual creators (i.e. comic book writers/illustrators).  They will also visit the Glasgow Film Theatre for a screening and will be encouraged to discuss and engage with what they have seen.

Finally, learners will be supported to develop their own creative expression and digital creativity through producing their own movie projects. These will be celebrated and shared at their own local film festival to further their confidence and engage with a wider audience.
