Snapshot Week- 28th April 2025

It is hard to believe that this is the final term for our Primary 7 pupils!

We have a very busy and exciting term ahead. Lots of leadership opportunities, transition events and planning our very special P7 service.

We are delighted to share some of our learning from our Snapshot Week through our class Blog.

Literacy-Reading

‘Weslandia’ by Paul Fleischman

We are enjoying our new class novel ‘Weslandia’.  Tasks this week included identifying the main idea and use of language in a True, False, Can’t Tell activity. In our Literacy pairs/trios we discussed ideas and explored supporting evidence to justify our reasons. A perfect class novel for the final term in Primary 7!!

This story deals with relationships, respect and ambition so we decided to use these themes as part of a H&WB lesson.  We looked at the individual strengths, likes and character traits of every P7 pupil and shared what makes them special. This was a wonderful way to share our appreciation for our amazing and unique pupils!

Numeracy

In Numeracy we have been exploring Money, Budgets and calculating Profit and Loss. We used real life scenarios to develop our understanding of the importance of budgets to calculate spending.

Dealing with our Emotions- Assembly

On Tuesday, Primary 7 pupils organised the whole school assembly.  We identified different emotions and discussed  possible coping strategies.  The ‘Bubble Bounce’ activity helped us focus and regulate our breathing.

The Daily Mile is an important part of our assembly as this activity allows us to have movement breaks-and enjoy the sunshine for once!!

Our Rights Respecting School Learner Participation Group shared our new Playground Charter. As a school, we discussed the importance of Rights Holders(pupils) and Duty Bearers(Adults). We agreed that we must work together to continue to make our school a safe, happy and respectful learning environment for everyone!

Writing/IDL

For writing this week we enjoyed researching and selecting accurate information for our Rainforest Information leaflets.  We explored a range of sources and selected the most interesting and relevant facts to include in our leaflets.

RE

The month of May is very important as we honour and remember Mary.  During this month we will focus on The Rosary and life of Mary.

PE –Some talented future tennis players in Primary 7!

We have been focusing on hand-eye coordination when passing and receiving the ball. Resilience is an important factor in Tennis and pupils have been working hard to build confidence and focus. It was wonderful to see a huge improvement in growth mindset this week.  Well done Primary 7!

Art- Flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keefe

As part of our Class Novel and IDL topic we have been appreciating the beauty of nature in our environment. We invested the work of artist Georgia O’Keefe.  We produced line drawings of a close up view of a flower and used bold colours of paint to create tone and texture in the detail.

‘I’ll paint what I see-what the flower is to me but I’ll paint it big and they will be surprised into taking time to look at it.’Georgia O’Keefe

Open Afternoon

A huge thank you to parents/carers who attended our whole school Open Afternoon.  Primary 7 pupils embraced this opportunity to share learning and explore different areas of the curriculum in our classroom. It is always wonderful to share our learning with you.

Outdoor Learning/Digital Technology

It was wonderful to visit the Knowe Garden on Friday. So many flowers and colours in the garden!

This was a fantastic opportunity for us to develop our photography skills. We worked together to capture interesting photos to show growth and beauty in our natural environment.

What a lovely way to end a very busy week!

Weekly round up! 😃

Good afternoon and welcome to our weekly news round up for St Patrick’s Primary.   P7 pupils will be responsible for organising this Blog post.

Another busy week. It is hard to believe that it is only our 2nd week back.

Our week started with a wonderful treat as Mrs McCrorie came in for a visit with her guitar to teach us the Scottish Songs for our Burns Event.  It was so lovely to see her.

This week we had our whole school assembly about Resilience.  We discussed that it is ok to make mistakes.  We looked at different ways of dealing with situations and the importance of not giving up.  Mrs Sinclair read the story ‘The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes’.  We all enjoyed it!

Also this week, we had our first Learner Participation groups of the New Year.  The whole school participates in different mixed groups from P1-7.  We look at our action plans and discuss and organise events and activities for our school.  Great team work!

Very busy  in all our classes this week.  In P1 they have been busy learning Ball skills in PE.  It was wonderful to see them in action!  A few future footballers in that class.

Happy new year!🎉

Hello! 🌊

Welcome back to the P7 blog,

We hope that you had a lovely Christmas and New Year.🎄

For P7, the year has been off to a busy start.  Lots to look forward to including our annual Burns event coming up.

P7 selected a new poem for the Burns event named “Embdy Lost a Jaicket?” Although we were in two minds whether to pick this or the classic “Sergeant Snoddy”.

We have been focusing on our Scottish culture and have been looking into the Scots language. An example of this was when we read “The Three Wise Men fae the East” from the Scottish gospel as our RE task.

We have also been researching Robert Burns, his poems and famous songs. In particular we have been focusing on our Robert Burns presentations and information reports.

As part of our Robert Burns research we have been painting his childhood home, ‘The Burns Cottage’.  This was a challenging lesson as we were exploring perspective line drawings.

In Numeracy this week P7 have been focusing on angles. We have mostly been working on acute angles( less than 90 °) obtuse (between 90 ° and 180 °), right (90 °) ,reflex angles (between 180 ° and 360 °) and straight angles (180 °).

We were also drawing angles and calculating missing angles.

In PE we have been focusing on ball games and competitive basketball skills.

That’s all for this week!😎

We will continue to type in the blog every few weeks to keep you updated.

Thank you from Primary 7.

As you can imagine, we were delighted to welcome Wendy and Lana from ‘The Way Forward’ to come along and share some first hand experience of  Antarctica.

Wendy has a wealth of experience in waste industry expertise and sustainable environmental solutions in Scotland.  It was fantastic to hear a recount of her adventures in Antarctica and see some amazing footage and photographs.  Wendy then took the time to answer lots of interesting questions from Primary 7.  Thank you for sharing your experience with us Wendy.  The adventure of a lifetime!!

Climate Ready Classroom

We worked with Primary 6 in mixed groups and took part in Climate Ready Classrooms workshops. It was a very interesting day, lots of learning and great discussion.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Christmas Art

Shepherds in the style of Monet

This week we have been exploring the art work of Claude Monet. We decided to use his impressionist style for our Christmas Art!

We researched some examples of his style and then created outlines of the shepherds.   It was fun blending lots of vibrant colours with chalk pastels to create the features and background.
