Snapshot Learning- November 2024

Welcome to a snapshot of our learning in November!

We hope you enjoy looking at some of the work in our Snapshot Jotters.  Our blog shows a snapshot of some of the other learning experiences in Primary 7.

Remembrance Assembly

To start off our Snapshot Learning week, Primary 7 pupils were responsible for planning, presenting and leading the whole school Remembrance assembly.

We worked collaboratively and organised the presentation together.  As a class, we discussed the best way to  share information with younger pupils.

IDL The Way Forward- Antarctica Presentation

As part of our IDL topic, we have been busy learning about Antarctica.  As a class we have been researching living things, features, geography and human impact.

As you can imagine, we were delighted to welcome Wendy and Lana from ‘The Way Forward’ to come along and share some first hand experience of  Antarctica.

Wendy has a wealth of experience in waste industry expertise and sustainable environmental solutions in Scotland.  It was fantastic to hear a recount of her adventures in Antarctica and see some amazing footage and photographs.  Wendy then took the time to answer lots of interesting questions from Primary 7.  Thank you for sharing your experience with us Wendy.  The adventure of a lifetime!!

Climate Ready Classroom

We worked with Primary 6 in mixed groups and took part in Climate Ready Classrooms workshops. It was a very interesting day, lots of learning and great discussion.

We identified opportunities to tackle Climate Change and started to create our Action Plan.

We can make a difference to Our World!

Snapshot Afternoon

It was wonderful to welcome so many of our parents and families into our school for our Snapshot Afternoon.

Primary 7 pupils embraced this opportunity to share our learning and explore different areas of the curriculum in our classroom.

We shared Themes and character descriptions in our class novel ‘The Silver Swan’.  We also looked at Predators and Prey of species in Antarctica as part of our IDL topic. Some pupils explored shape and line in Art to sketch Emperor Penguins.

A few pupils independently demonstrated their digital skills by using coding in Scratch.

Other pupils had the opportunity to explore Numeracy resources and tools used in Chromebooks to support our learning.

A very busy afternoon!!

PE- Gymnastics

Encouraging creativity skills and developing a range of techniques to explore different balance, posture and sequences in gymnastics.  Team work and positive attitudes all round!  Well done!

Numeracy

In Numeracy we have been exploring different strategies to solve addition and subtraction calculations.  We have also been making connections and using table facts to help us solve multiplication problems involving multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.

The Silver Swan- Our Class Novel

This week we read the final page of our class novel- ‘The Silver Swan’.  Some excellent discussions and a range of reading activities. Recently, we have been exploring the different themes in the novel.  We completed our final summary of the text in our Chromebooks.  In Tools for Reading and Writing we have been using the text to identify verbs and adverbs.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Christmas Art

Shepherds in the style of Monet

This week we have been exploring the art work of Claude Monet. We decided to use his impressionist style for our Christmas Art!

We researched some examples of his style and then created outlines of the shepherds.   It was fun blending lots of vibrant colours with chalk pastels to create the features and background.

The Match Girl’s Christmas

Amazing auditions- well done everyone! Every pupil has an important role in the production of our Christmas Performance. Fantastic team effort Primary 7.  Looking forward to the rehearsals next week!

Scottish Dancing

As part of Dance and PE, we have been learning a few Scottish Dances with Primary 6.  Today, we participated in the Canadian Barn Dance, Military Two Step and St. Bernard’s Waltz.  A fun morning!

Let the Christmas fun begin!!
