Our blog post below tells you about our learning this week. We hope you enjoy reading it!
Literacy
In Reading, we have been continuing with our class novel ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’. We have read up to chapter 5 and we are really enjoying the story so far!
For each chapter, we have enjoyed making a prediction about what we think might happen. After each chapter, we have written a one sentence summary, where we have chosen the most important detail/ event.
This week, we completed a Metalinguistics sheet where we explored using different strategies to find the meaning of new or unfamiliar words.

We also used the ship’s log written by the main character, Michael, to create a timeline of his journey so far. We selected important information such as places he has visited and animals he has seen.
Spelling
In Spelling, we have been focusing on the ‘h’ phoneme. We have completed handwriting activities and have diacritically marked our spelling words.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been exploring the topic of money. Some pupils have been solving monetary word problems using standard algorithm. Pupils have taken their time to work through calculations to make sure they show exchanging or carry over.
Other pupils have been learning about buying items and spending within a budget.
RE
In RE, we are continuing with the Pope Francis Faith Award. We have started exploring how we use the Gift of Understanding in school.

PE
On Wednesday we took our tennis lesson outside. Pupils were working well with each other to return the ball successfully over the net. Next week we will try some mini games!

On Thursday, we focused on some athletic activities, including hurdles, javelin and target practice.
IDL
To link in with our class novel, we have begun our new topic of ‘How can we keep our oceans amazing?’
We have been exploring food chains and, in particular, the ocean food chain. We have found out about the different levels of the ocean food chain and the different animals that are in each level.
Outdoor Leaning/ Digital Technologies
On Friday, we enjoyed taking our learning outdoors when we went to the Knowe garden to explore and appreciate the nature around us. We worked in trios as we developed our photography skills by selecting flowers and plants to take pictures of.
We then took the time to sketch different flowers, taking note of the colour, shape and size of the different plants growing so close to our school.

Open Afternoon
On Thursday afternoon, we enjoyed welcoming parents and carers into our classroom to share our learning. We hope that you all enjoyed taking part in the different activities around the classroom.
