November Snapshot

We have had a very busy few weeks in Primary 6!

Last Monday, the whole school came together for our Remembrance Assembly, which was led by our Primary 7s.

In Numeracy, we have been looking at using Mental Strategies to help solve Subtraction calculations.  We have been looking at changing calculations by ‘keeping a constant difference’ in order to make it easier to calculate the answers and also using our knowledge of place value to subtract multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.

We recently finished our class novel, The Selkie Girl, and so have moved on to looking at and exploring non-fiction texts.  Both of the non-fiction texts (‘On the Shore’ and ‘Marine’) linked in nicely with The Selkie Girl story, as well as the ‘Climate Ready Classrooms’ event that we took part in last Wednesday, alongside Primary 5s and Primary 7s.

For the Climate Ready Classrooms event we worked in groups with Primary 7s and attended three different workshops related to climate change.  In the first workshop, we conducted an experiment using two glasses of water, to represent the impact that greenhouse gases are having on the Earth.  The second workshop was all about ‘Biodiversity’ and for this session we created a Web of Life diagram, which demonstrated how all living things are connected and interdependent.  We then created a school Action Plan with Primary 5 and Primary 7 to agree on ways that we can reduce energy use and encourage biodiversity across our school!

We enjoyed this event so much, that we have started writing a recount of it.  Check out our introductions in our snapshot jotters!

Last Thursday, we enjoyed welcoming parents and families into our school for our Snapshot Afternoon.  We enjoyed sharing our learning and showing examples of our work.

In PE, we have made a start on Scottish dancing to prepare for our Christmas party.  So far, we have learned the Canadian Barn Dance, Virginia Reel and the Military Two Step.  The pupils that took part in our Day of Dance last week have been keeping us right with the correct steps!

We have also made a start on our Christmas art.  We are so happy with our progress so far!

We hope you enjoy looking through our Snapshot Jotters!
