Homework Week 1

Today the children will bring home their homework to show you some of the learning they have been doing in class.  So far the children have learned the following phonemes ‘a’, ‘s’ and ‘t’.  At home they can be looking for things that begin with that sound and then use the sounds to blend them together to make simple words such as ‘at’ and ‘sat’.  As well as learning to read, they have been writing letters.  In the yellow jotter there are letters that show where to start and the direction in which to form the letter correctly.  Pupils can use different coloured pencils/pens to practise their letter formation and draw pictures of items that begin with that letter.  There is also an envelope which contains the key words ‘a’, ‘at’, ‘the’.  It would be helpful if the pupils could practise these at home to build up their sight vocabulary.  I will aim to send the homework bag home on a Monday to be returned on a Friday.  This will allow me to organise homework for the following week.  Thank you for your support.

Our first full week in Primary one!

This has been a fun and busy week for us in Primary one! There has been a big focus on literacy, working on rhyme and syllables as well as learning our new phonemes ‘a’ and ‘t’.  We finished our exciting week with a pantomine brought to us by M&M productions called ‘The Secret Garden’.  The boys and girls really enjoyed it!

On Monday I will post some homework ideas linked to our learning from this week.  I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Welcome to Primary one!

It has been a pleasure to welcome the boys and girls to Primary 1 this week.  All the pupils have been getting used to their classroom  environment and establishing new routines.  They have also been building relationships with staff and making friends.  They have done very well and I’m proud of how they have started their journey in Primary school.  Here are a few snapshots from our week and will look forward to sharing our learning with you next week.

Snapshot Week

Primary 1 have had a busy week with lots of great learning!  The pupils have been working hard across the curriculum and have put some of their great work in their snapshot jotters and are excited to share it with you at home.  We have also included photographs of us in PE doing yoga and improving our football skills.  As part of our IDL topic ‘Spring’ we visited the Knowe garden to investigate the changes that happen at this time of year.
