Higher Art & Design<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Purpose Candidates develop knowledge of art and design practice by studying artists and designers and their work. They also develop an understanding of expressive art and design processes and gain related skills. The course provides opportunities for candidates to be inspired and creatively challenged as they communicate their personal thoughts, ideas and feelings through their work.<\/p>\n Content Recommended Entry Desirable<\/strong> Assessment External Assessment Progression<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>The Higher course allows candidates to develop skills and qualities that are in demand in a variety of careers, with an emphasis on creativity, perseverance, independence and resilience. They also learn to critically appreciate aesthetic and cultural values, identities and ideas. The course provides a broad, investigative and practical experience of art and design where creativity is the key focus.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The course comprises three units which includes time allocated for the preparation and presentation of their practical portfolios. All three units are externally assessed by SQA and are as follows:<\/p>\n\n
\n<\/strong>Students are expected to have achieved an A-C pass for National 5 Art and Design.<\/p>\n
\nNational 5 pass in English at A-C.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Assessment is conducted through internal on-going unit assessment throughout the year.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Expressive and Design portfolios with evaluations submitted for external assessment to SQA.
\n<\/strong>Art and Design Studies written exam externally assessed by SQA.<\/p>\n
\nSuccessful students may progress to Advanced Higher in Art and Design.<\/p>\n
