We seek to encourage, promote and recognise such achievement both through and alongside our \u201ctraditional\u201d curriculum. We aim to celebrate the successes of our young people whether they are inside or outside of school, academic or extra-curricular, a tangible award or a personal success.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wider Achievement within our curriculum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>S1 \u2013 Junior Awards Scheme for Schools (JASS) Bronze Award (1 period weekly)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>S2 \u2013 Junior Awards Scheme for Schools (JASS) Silver Award (1 period weekly)<\/p>\n<p>The JASS Award is aimed at \u201cdeveloping well-rounded individuals\u201d through encouraging young people to participate fully in activities and recognising their efforts and successes in doing so.<\/p>\n<p>There are four sections to complete to achieve the award:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 My Interests \u2013 projects of own choice on personal interest &amp; learning life skills<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Me and My World \u2013 a team-based citizenship and volunteering opportunity<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Get Active, Stay Active \u2013 encouraging awareness of and living a healthy lifestyle<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Adventure \u2013 a planned activity taking place over one day of the school year<\/p>\n<p>All achievements and successes outside of class time can also be recognised; at Stewarton Academy we give special recognition awards to those participants who have gone above and beyond to better themselves and help others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S3 \u2013 Wider Achievement course option (3 periods weekly)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the final year of the Broad General Education, our learners can choose to continue with Wider Achievement inside the curriculum, allowing them various opportunities to develop their skills and achieve awards.<br \/>\nThere are a few key awards we give the learners the opportunity to achieve:<br \/>\n\u2022 Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s Award \u2013 Bronze<br \/>\n\u2022 Duke of York\u2019s Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA) \u2013 Bronze<br \/>\n\u2022 Saltire Award \u2013 \u2018Approach\u2019 (10\/25 hours of volunteering)<br \/>\n\u2022 SQA Wellbeing Award \u2013 Level 3 or Level 4<\/p>\n<p><strong>S4 \u2013 Wider Achievement course options (1 period weekly)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alongside completing National Qualifications offered by SQA for \u201ctraditional\u201d subjects (such as Mathematics, English, Chemistry, French, for example), our learners in the first year of Senior Phase have the opportunity to further enhance their suite of qualifications and experiences by undertaking one of a number of Wider Achievement options.<\/p>\n<p>These include:<br \/>\n\u2022 SQA unit-only courses (Computer Games Design, Philosophy, Spanish)<br \/>\n\u2022 Mentors in Violence Prevention Programme<br \/>\n\u2022 DofE Bronze or Silver Award<br \/>\n\u2022 Sports Leader Award<\/p>\n<p><strong>S5 and S6 Wider Achievement <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Further Wider Achievement opportunities are available alongside standard presentations for NQ Awards to develop CVs and UCAS applications.<br \/>\nThese include such as the SQA Leadership Award, SQA Personal Development Award, iDEA Silver and Gold Awards, Barista qualifications run by Kilmarnock College. Our senior pupils are also given leadership roles and responsibilities within the school through running clubs, the Prom and Yearbook committees, and being \u201cbuddies\u201d to our new S1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Development of Skills through Wider Achievement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An advantage of having Wider Achievement within our curriculum is that it allows further development of skills that we have identified as being key to success in learning, life and work.
