Christmas Challenge

Christmas challenge

As part of our drive to continue to promote and develop children’s communication skills, we have set a Christmas challenge, where the children will be given a list of activities which they can complete over the next few weeks. This will encourage your child’s talking, interaction and listening skills.

We at the Early Childhood Centre would love to hear how your child has got on with the challenge through sharing their experiences with others at the ECC, although a little differently this year. You can email your completed challenge pictures, drawings etc to: rhona.mckillop@eastayrshire.org.uk.

You may even get a wee Christmas treat.

Have fun!

Outdoor Play

Outdoor Play

Our children will be spending a lot of their time outdoors, in a healthy, fun, natural, exciting and challenging environment.

Being outdoors has amazing benefits for the children. It allows the children to manage their own risks in a safe environment with adult supervision. We encourage children to try new things, and this helps to build their confidence. It has been proven that children benefit greatly from outdoor experiences, and the outdoors provides a calming engaging environment. It has a positive impact on children’s self- esteem, Physical health development of language and skills and disposition to learning.

Our children have access to varied stimulating play; they have the freedom of choice to move from indoors to outdoors, and resources to support learning and development.

Risk Management

The children enjoy assisting the staff with managing risk. The staff will do the main risk assessment but allowing the children to manage their own risks. This helps the children build confidence and resilience. Staff ensures a balanced approach and manage the children’s abilities.

At St Andrews ECC we have chosen our Green Space within the campus which we will take time to develop and make safe. We are looking to do this with the children and our Green Space Champion’s Mrs Cindy Murtagh and Mrs Julieanne Stewart. We aim to provide a quality learning environment for the children using natural resources.

Children will get dirty; however this is showing how much fun the children are having and the experiences that they are enjoying.

We ask that you provide the appropriate warm and waterproof clothing, another change of clothing and appropriate footwear for being outdoors.
