S3

S3 pupils attend social subjects four times per week. Pupils are taught each social subject by a specialist and rotate around the three disciplines throughout the year. Pupils spend roughly each 13 weeks in history, geography and modern studies.

Although S3 is still part of our broad general education, our S3 courses are designed to give pupils a more in depth look at one period or topic, much like the National courses followed in s4. Our S3 courses also focus heavily on the skills required in National Qualifications to enable young people to make the smoothest possible transition to S4. Our S3 courses are;

History – Scotland in the 20th Century

Geography – Population

Modern Studies – China

At the end of S3, young people can choose up to two social subjects for further study.
