8th September 2016

Last Friday we said farewell to our Principal Teacher of Technical, IDL & Enterprise, Mr. Neil Henderson. Mr Henderson moves on to a new post at Loudoun Academy and we wish him all the best in the future.

S3 Pupils have been enjoying a Biology field trip to Dean Park at the start of this week. The weather was not brilliant but they certainly enjoyed themselves nonetheless.

On Tuesday our S1 retreats began with class 1A1 heading to St. Matthew’s Church & Hall. Fr Martin Chambers led these retreats that will take place over the next few weeks and we are very grateful to Fr. Martin for the work he does for the school throughout the school year.

Our first Parent Council of the year took place on Monday evening and I would like to thank all those who attended. We are so grateful for the parents who support the school in so many ways.  If you would like to join the Parent Council, come along to our next meeting at 7pm On Monday 3rd October.

On Tuesday afternoon we were lucky enough to welcome Jill Pringle to the school. Jill is a Professional Adviser with the Scottish Government and trained SMT and PTs in the use of Insight. Insight is a major online benchmarking tool designed to help bring about improvements for learners in the senior phase (S4 to S6).

This week sees the start of my meetings with PTs and departments throughout September to discuss the recent results. This is a great opportunity for staff to talk about the strengths of their departments as well as the areas they hope to improve on.

Pupil voice is important in St Joseph’s and this week saw the selection of the reps for the Pupil Council. There will be a Pupil Council in each year group and then 2 reps from each year will come together as a School Council to discuss issues across the year groups.  Ms. Glencorse and Miss Devanney have been working hard in the organisation of this. First meetings of the year take place next week!

On Wednesday our Pupil Leadership Team in S6 took part in an excellent Servant Leadership course in St Matthew’s Saltcoats. The team have already been working well together in helping to make the school even better and we have no doubt their participation in this course will help them to undertake this important role they have in the school.
