The P1-3 STEM group have been working on our Problem Solving, Communication and Teamwork skills!
To raise awareness of STEM in our school
To raise awareness of the importance of STEM skills for certain jobs
To develop our Problem Solving skills
To develop our communication and teamwork skills by working as a team to solve problems
Unfortunately we only had a few sessions before the school closed. In those sessions we looked at what STEM is. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
We discussed the importance of STEM skills for certain jobs such as an architect, builder, computer programmer/ animator, product designer, fashion designer, game designer and many more!
We had great fun using a variety of construction materials to create the tallest tower. We noticed that it got more wobbly the taller it got. We made it more stable by making it wider and alternating the direction of the bricks.
We were given the problem: “No one wants to play in the playpark because the climbing frame is broken. Design a new climbing frame for the park.”
We discussed what would make us want to play in a park and each designed and drew a plan for our own playpark complete with labels.
Our next step is to try to build a model of our playpark!
