The Primary 7s ran an amazingly successful ‘Revive and Thrive’ sale this week.  Not only did they collect in, clean and organise all of the toys, but they also priced up each item individually and then sold them at a very busy sale on Wednesday.  Each class was given a time slot to attend and they had great fun choosing a toy to take home.

On Thursday afternoon we had a production line in progress, preparing our baubles for the Christmas Fayre. The baubles will be personalised by Mrs Cook at the Fayre on Thursday night, but the P7s are allowed to bring in their £2 early to get their bauble made for them on Thursday afternoon in class if they wish.

For our Literacy Open morning on Thursday, the P7s created activities for the P1, 2 and 3 classes to go with their Book Bug and Read, Write Count bags they were being gifted.  As well as creating and resourcing all of the activities, the P7s also went to help in the classes, helping to lead the learning.  I was so proud of how hard they all worked and all of the other teachers commented on how fantastic the activities were.

For PE this week, we practised our Rugby skills from last week. We played 5 pass and then finished with an epic game of dodge ball.

On Thursday we had a visit from Harry from the Cumnock Rugby Club who took us for a very energetic Rugby session. We played tig games to warm up and then Five Pass. We all worked our socks off and there were plenty of red, sweaty faces at the end!

In the afternoon,  we did some Drama and the class were absolutely hilarious! They acted out some scenarios using mime and then we took it in turns to say the first line of Humpty Dumpty in different ways, such as: someone who is tired, a superhero, someone gossiping to their neighbour, someone who is upset etc. It was so much fun and we can’t wait to do it again next week.

At the start of the week we had a visit from the fire service who talked to us about staying safe on Bonfire night.

We had our first Rugby session this week.  Unfortunately, Harry from the Rugby club got the dates mixed up, but Mrs Govans released our very own Mrs Mair from P2, who just so happens to be a Rugby coach, and the P7s had great fun playing outside.

Happy Hallowe’en

Well done to all the children who dressed up for Hallowe’en today.  I was so impressed with the costumes and couldn’t stop laughing every time I looked over to see a giant banana and the Lorax doing their work!

This week the class painted some beautiful spooky pictures. They used the primary colours to create a sunset scene and then added black paper trees and cats.  I’m sure you’ll agree the finished pieces of artwork are absolutely fabulous.

On Wednesday we had a visit from Kieran McIvor to talk about anti-social behaviour.  The children had a really mature discussion and asked lots of important questions.

RME – Worship

For the past couple of weeks the children have been learning about Worship in RME.  They have looked at the meaning of the word worship and understand that it means to give great worth to something and show adoration and respect.  They considered some of the things that they worship – not necessarily in a religious sense but more in the sense that they worship their family, a specific sports team, or in the case of some pupils in the class, Yorkshire tea!

This week we looked at music and prayer as a form of worship.  The children listened to different pieces of music from a range of religions and discussed how it made them feel and what they noticed about the music.  Today we looked at the reasons people pray in different religions.  We noticed themes of “Hope”, “Love” and “Thankfulness” and this helped us to have a go at writing our own prayers. They did not have to be religious and the children chose who they would write the prayers to.  I was blown away with the maturity of all the pupils, who really engaged in the lesson and put a lot of thought and effort into coming up with their own versions of a prayer.

We are continuing to work on descriptive writing and today we looked at using figurative language such as similes, metaphors, personification and alliteration when describing a storm scene.

In maths we were rounding decimal numbers. It sounds tricky but as long as we follow the rule of “five or more rounds up, four or less rounds down” we can do it easily!

This week in Health and Well Being, we were doing first aid and learning about the importance of the recovery position.  We practiced putting each other into the position so that we will be confident to do it if we ever need to help someone in real life.

In writing we have been focusing on Descriptive Language. This week we were thinking about how we can show our readers how people are feeling, rather than simply telling them. Here are just two of the fabulous pieces of writing that we produced.  Well done to Brooke and Kayla for their fantastic work!
