Week Ending 14.11.24

On Tuesday we had our literacy morning.  Some of the P7s volunteered to help in the P2 and P3 classes. they were recieving their Read, Write and Count bags, and as part of the Reading Leadership Group, the P7s created some activities for them to do relating to the books. Both Mrs Campbell and Mrs Withers were so impressed with them  and wish they could get them to plan their lessons every week!

On Thursday afternoon we  attended a fantastic anti bullying show and workshop in the hall.  It was about a successful singer called Hope, who returns to her hometown for a concert and meets someone who bullied her badly in school.  We flashback to see the awful events happening, and in the process, we learn about the background of the bully and understand what motivates some people to act the way they do.

On Friday, we had our annual lantern making session in the hall for the upcoming ‘Make  Catrine Sparkle’ event.

Homework Focus

Our second homework focus launched yesterday and is Literacy. Over the next four weeks pupils will be issued with weekly homework as follows:

  • Week 1 – Big Talk (issued and in school bags yesterday)
  • Week 2 – Reading Challenge
  • Week 3 – Handwriting
  • Week 4 – Writing

All class talks will be heard on Monday 25th November.  This term’s talk is ‘Me, Myself and I’.  More information in school bags.

Primary Seven worked so well in PE with Mrs McCaig this week.  They are focusing on fitness and completed 3 rounds of their circuits where they moved round several different exercises. They also completed a run too.  It was hard work but they all persevered.

Happy Hallowe’en

We had a fantastic time at our Halloween party on Thursday. Our room was the music room and we had great fun dancing away! We also had the opportunity to chill out and watch spooky movies in P5 and do some Halloween colouring in P6, as well as dooking for apples in the open area.

Week Ending 25.10.24

We have had such a busy week back in P7.  We have been getting organised for our Upcoming show, ‘Cinderella and Rockerfella’ and have been auditioning and assigning parts this week.  All of the speaking roles have been given out, along with the scripts, so we are looking for as much help as possible to practice  learning the lines at home.

We have also started our new Multiplication Masters challenge in class where we will be really focusing on learning our times tables. Each week we will rotate through 3 activities:  a ‘Say’ activity, such as using the flashcards to answer multiplications facts with a partner; a ‘Make’ challenge, where we will use materials to build the tables; and a ‘Do’ challenge, such as the timestables.co.uk website.

We were also given a lovely Hallowe’en challenge from Mrs Govans to decorate two pumpkins for our local Pharmacy. The children worked so well in two small teams to design them, and I’m sure you’ll agree they look amazing.  We’d like to say a huge thank you to Catrine Pharmacy for donating the Pumpkins and be sure to check them out in the window if you are passing by.

End of Term One

We can’t believe we are at the end of Term One already. It has been such a busy term and P7 have all worked so hard and been super role models.

The children had great fun today down in P1,  playing with their buddies. They were especially pleased to see the dressing up box out.  I don’t know who had more fun, the P1s or the P7s!!

Have a lovely October holiday and we’ll see you on Tuesday 22nd October for the start of Term Two.

Donations

As part of our fundraising for our hoodies we are going to run a chocolate raffle.  To support this we are asking if each P7 pupil could bring in a chocolate bar of some kind, if possible.  Please note that it should not contain nuts.

Chocolate donations should be in to school for Wednesday 9th October ahead of the prize draw on Friday.

Thank you for your support with this.
