Weekly Round up 10/5/2019

Hi everyone!

A quick post this week to let you know about what we’ve been up to.

On Tuesday we welcomed a new pupil in to our class. Skye has settled in so well and we can’t wait to spend the rest of the year with her.

In literacy we started to form our critical essays on our poem ‘Matilda’ and we are doing really well! Next week we will finish writing them and will self/peer/teacher assess them.

In maths we began to round up our angles topic. We have all developed our knowledge of angles and have done so well in this topic. We are protractor pros!

Health and wellbeing saw us discuss our ‘circle of trust’ and the difference between day to day changes compared to bigger life changes. I was so impressed with how mature our learners were throughout the discussions.

On Friday Primary 7 took part in their history of Kilmaurs walk around the village. There was so much interesting information to find out and we managed to keep up with Mrs Quig. She was a fantastic tour guide!

Achievements this week:

HotChocFri – Rory who chose to take Ona

Star of the week – Lucas for excellence in maths

Group of the week – Lucas, Kodi, Skye, Ruby and Rory

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Round up 3rd May 2019

Well we often say it has been a busy week, but this one has been jam packed! It was lovely to meet all of the parents this week. I’ve enjoyed putting faces to the people the pupils talk about so often.

This week we have had 3 visitors in class. On Monday Rory’s Mum. Tara came in to begin a 4 week British Sign Language course. We learned to sign the alphabet, ask someone their name and reply. We have been practising all week and can’t wait to show Tara our progress. Well done to all our learners for their effort and progress!

We also had Laura (Mrs Brown’s sister in-law) and niece Ellie in as part of our parenting topic. Pupils interviewed Laura on what it is like to be a parent but also what her job as a children’s nurse involves. They did wonderfully and Ellie settled in so well that she didn’t want to leave!

In health and wellbeing we had a go at discussing our mental wellbeing using blob trees. Learners worked in pairs to identify a ‘blob’ on the tree which represented how they felt. For a Monday morning there were lots of tired ‘blobs’!

It was Charley and Dylan’s turn to lead the lesson as they used their privilege cards. They chose to play some mental maths games which we all enjoyed!

In P.E we are currently learning about athletics. P6/7 were set a challenge to come up with a new athletics sport for the Olympics. We had Wheelbarrow races whilst balancing things on our heads, hurdle/long jump/javelin and dribbling/long jump/hurdles!

In literacy we continued our study of ‘Matilda’ and will begin writing a critical essay on it next week. We have also continued working on angles in maths and are beginning to get used to using protractors!

Achievements this week:

Group of the week – Megan, Theo, Josh and Kate

Star of the week – Kate for excellent effort in literacy

HotChocFri attendee – Maia who took Kodi

Can I please ask that if you are reading the blog that you leave us a wee comment to help us see if people are enjoying our updates?

Have a wonderful long weekend (again!)
