Weekly Update
This week we have started learning about weight. We’ve been investigating equal balances and converting grams to kilograms. Some of us were writing weights in fractions and decimals.
At the start of the week, we looked at books that had been kindly donated to the school. We got the opportunity to take some home with us… there weren’t many left.
Finally, we rounded off our week with another donation, this time from the school to the community. We were lucky enough to get new football nets for our playground and decided rather than throwing our old ‘pre-loved’ ones away, we could donate them to the community. With the help of P4-7 and Mrs Connell, we carried them up to the field where we positioned and tested them. A member of the public said it was so nice to see us out having a kick about and thought leaving the goals was a brilliant idea.
World of Work Week
This week we have been delighted to welcome many visitors to our school to talk about their jobs. We’ve had:
- police
- a minister
- waste management officer
- school nurse
- secondary school geography teacher
- STEM coordinator and science teacher
- doctor
- EA Council Housing officer/Clean Green Award organiser
- journalist
We learned about their jobs and linked their roles to the skills and qualities we have been learning about. Also, we thought about our own skills and qualities and applied for our class jobs, learned about job stereotypes, note taking, creating questions and budgeting. Phew…
We finished off our week with a performance of The Wizard of Oz and got to see how the actors worked together to make the magic happen. They answered our questions about their jobs and we linked their roles to our transferable skills.
Weekly Update
It’s been a short but busy week in P4-7.
We have been working out the area of squares and rectangles and some of us started calculating the area of composite shapes.
In science, we have been classifying animals by looking at their features and looking for examples in our playground.
Weekly Update
Here is our weekly update from Sorn Primary School. Have a lovely long weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
Weekly Update
We started learning about area this week. By counting the squares or multiplying the length and breadth, we can find the area.
In science, we have been learning about the water cycle and how to filter water. We experimented with different materials to find which cleaned the water best.
Then we explored climate change and the effect that the rising temperatures have on our planet. We made chains to show the many effects that climate change is having.
Clean Green Award Update
We have been working hard to earn each part of Windy. So far we have achieved the foundation, base tower, mid tower and top tower. This month we are working towards winning our blade 1. We have created an energy checklist for each classroom. This means when we leave for break, lunch and home time, we are saving energy by switching electrical items off and closing windows and doors. Can you try switching off devices when you leave home or switch lights off when you leave the room? Have a look at our checklist for inspiration.
Here’s Windy’s energy saving top tip.

This week in science we have been learning about the water cycle. We were filtering dirty water with a bottle, sand and cotton balls.
This is the water we filtered.
In PE this week we had Barry, he came in to do leadership training for the younger ones and he taught us some badminton. 🏸
This week in maths we had to do measuring, converting, probability and ratios.
In literacy we have been writing about our robots 🤖 that we built earlier this year
.
Yesterday we did a zoom call to learn about bats 🦇 it was really cool 😎.We learned about different types of bats and how they live and some other stuff.
Weekly Update
This week we were very lucky and took part in BEAR Cubs Engineer workshop. We joined with other schools on Teams and discussed different types of engineers. Then we completed a Spidergraph of our skills, rating them out of ten.
On Tuesday, we were learning about the different states of water. Outside, we organised ourselves into groups and showed how the particles move in solids, liquids and gases.
Today, we learned about the water cycle. Using words like evaporation, condensation, precipitation and accumulation, we created a ‘water cycle in a bag.’ They have been stuck to the window, ready to observe the water cycle. We also created a ‘cloud in a jar’ where we used shaving foam and coloured water to show how precipitation happens.
April’s Post
On Tuesday a robot from Dr Who came to the school. He was called Tal. Tal is a Dalek and his robot friends are not very nice. He asked us to design a robot friend for him. On Thursday we made his friends out of K-nex. We used the design cycle to plan our robot based on a criteria. The robot had to be a friend but also have a purpose like carrying or lifting something. It had to be at least 30cm tall and have a moving part.
We talked about what robots are and Mrs Connell taught us how to make pulleys with K-nex.
On Monday, we visited Maidsafe where we created circuits with a battery and working light. We learned how to make a complete circuit and saw a 3D printer in action.
