Primary 5 managed to complete the 21 Star Reading Challenge today. Pets have had books read to them, Grace visited the library van, Brogan followed a recipe and baked banana muffins . Zoe B managed to even read upside down on a trampoline. Well done to everyone who contributed to the class’ achievement.

Callum reading a comic strip.

Lacey enjoying her breakfast with a book 📖.

Dancing

We have been busy learning Salsa 💃 with Miss Corrigan and also creative dance with Mrs Howat. Our choice of music has been Encanto.

Football ⚽️

We started our football training sessions with the coaches from Kilmarnock football club. Excellent skills were on show.

Oscar and Erin had excellent control .

Hannah and Connor, Ivy and Lacey are showing passing and receiving skills.

Oscar has been given the fabulous opportunity to be the captain of his football team. I’m sure he will have all of the correct attributes to be successful.

African Art

We created a sunset over the African veld.
We painted using a tonal recession technique.

We also drew silhouettes of African animals

.
The drawings for our masks are fabulous.

We are starting to build up our new display on Africa.

Everyone designed a mask for a friend, making sure it represented their partners character and passions. One mask has turtles 🐢 on it , do you know who that was designed for ?
Each mask is unique and personal to the wearer.

Number Talks

We are continuing to use the method of finding a friendly number when multiplying this week. Connor has shown repeated addition , the written and mental method in his Number Talk.
We were also looking at silent letters in spelling – numb, thumb, climb etc.
This is a perfect example of how we start our day every morning , well done Connor.

Aily’s Achievement

Aily managed to reach her Dolphin level 7 at Swimming 🏊‍♀️. Well done !

Well done everyone for always working so hard.

World Book Day

World Book Day

This week Primary 5 have been working towards meeting the World Book Day challenges. We only have 5 more stars to complete the challenge.

Connor is reading a book with a yellow cover.

Erin and Hannah are laughing at Horrid Henry.

Jayden , Lacey and Rebecca are reading about animals.

So far we have built a den in class to read inside. Great communication skills and problem solving was used to build a tent big enough to hold all of us. Well done!

Haydn, Lacey and Ivy inside the den.

Most of the class chose to be comfortable and wear our pyjamas this morning. However we did also have a witch and Mario present.

P5 watched the World Book Day authors and illustrators explain how they get their ideas for imaginative stories. After this live session we created our own imagination maps showing illustrations and ideas for stories.

We have some talented illustrators and writers who created wonderful settings and original characters.

Under the sea

This week Jayden was keen to explain about the oceans and brought in a poster. He talked through all of the different sea creatures that exist at each depth in the ocean. Clever boy. You really know your facts. We were all fascinated by the variety of creatures.

Numeracy

We have been working on simplifying fractions and creating equivalent fractions this week. Some pupils also completed their numeracy assessments and were able to apply the skills they know.

Number Talks

The class have been working on the strategy of finding friendly numbers when multiplying. We continue to start every day with a smart start and a word of the day.

Africa

In writing everyone has been able to research, take notes then create a non chronological report on White Lions. Every child will be choosing their own African animal to research next.

Going Electric

P5 enjoyed a visit to the new  electric bus owned by McGill’s bus company they were able to ask questions and experience being on the bus. They were shocked to find out each one cost £360,000 to build.
