Primary 3/4 On Thursday afternoon the whole school took part in a special festive bingo afternoon.
Well done to our winners Lachlan, Thomas, Rebecca, Rory S and Oliver!
A special shout out to our bingo callers Reagan, Rory H, Katie and Rory S who did a fantastic job! Also to Fraser, Emily C, Innes and Lukas who were working the computer. Lottie, Erik, Eva E and Sophie recorded the numbers drawn and checked the winning tickets, well done everyone!
A huge well done to all of our pupils at Ochiltree Primary who put on another spectacular show!
Back in class P3/4 enjoyed learning how to make a melting snowman biscuit. I hope they made it home before being eaten 🙂
In writing we have been learning to write instructions and the pupils gave a very detailed account of how to put up a Christmas tree.

Week Beginning 2nd December
Pupils have been working extremely hard on our upcoming Nativity performance. We can’t wait for grown ups to see it next week.
Reminder: Our nativity will be held on Friday 13th December at 10am, across in Ochiltree Parish Church.
This is also Christmas jumper day and our school Christmas lunch.
When not rehearsing P3/4 have been continuing to use a range of strategies to support our work in subtraction and use our group readers to practise fluency with expression. We have also been learning about hot and cold colours in art to create some contrasting Christmas trees.
Today we were excited to attend a panto performance of Jack and the Beanstalk over at the Hub. A huge thanks for providing this experience for our young people. We all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed joining in.

We continue to work on rapid recall to help with our subtraction work.
Here is a suggested activity that pupils may wish to play-
‘Race to Zero’
You will need: Paper, Pens and a dice.
Each player writes the starter number at the top of the paper (Pyramids- 20, Cubes & Cones- 100). Take turns rolling the dice and subtracting this from your number. The first player to get to zero wins!
Cubes and Cones may wish to roll two dice together to make a 2digit number to subtract.
We will begin our unit of work focusing on subtraction this term. Here is a game to help revise mental addition.
Pyramids- within 20.
Cubes- within 100.
Primary 3/4 have been bringing our Space topic to an end and moving onto our new topic of ‘Festivals and Celebrations’. We completed some space themed activities such as designing and creating a spacesuit.
We have been learning about Remembrance Day and have written fact files about the traditions and customs. Ask me to retell some facts at home. We have also created ‘pointillism poppies’ and I look forward to sharing the final results.
During the week we had the chance to practise our spelling words using cotton buds and water. We had lots of fun watching the words disappear!
In numeracy we kept working hard to solve addition problems. We used dominos in the tuff tray to create and solve addition calculations. The cones got carried away making huge numbers with lots of decimal places!
To finish on Friday we began learning some traditional Scottish dances in preparation for our annual Christmas Party. I hope everyone had a great weekend and I look forward to another fun-filled week ahead!

This week we hope to finish our work on addition before moving onto subtraction.
We have learned the following strategies to help us-
Please ask your child how we can use each of these strategies by giving them some example calculations.
Pyramids: addition within 100 (two, two digit numbers e.g. 17 + 42)
Cubes: addition within 1000 (two, three digit numbers e.g. 125 + 236)
Cones: Addition within 10,000 (two or more, four digit numbers) as well as adding decimals with one decimal place (e.g. 2.3 + 0.8)

Pyramids- We have been learning to use the standard written algorithm to add two, two digit numbers. This has been without carrying, although we have talked about this and demonstrated it using concrete materials so feel free to practice.
Column Addition Level 1 – Free PDF Worksheet
Cubes- We have been adding two, two digit numbers together using the written method as well as adding a three digit number to a two digit one and vice versa. We have been carrying but lots of practise would help.
Column Addition Level 2 – Free PDF Worksheet
Cones- We have been learning about decimals. We have been identifying tenths and learning to write this as a decimal and a as a fraction.
