Health and Wellbeing – Washing Our Hands Experiment

This week the children have been learning about personal hygiene and how to wash our hands properly. This included the children doing an experiment with glitter, this represented the germs and it could help them visualise how germs can spread quickly if your personal hygiene is not good. The children really enjoyed this experiment and were able to write down in their jotters the steps you take to wash your hands effectively and created their own hand sanitiser design too. Well done Primary 4!

Health and Wellbeing – My Fruit Kebabs

The children in Primary 4 have been learning about nutrition and healthy eating as part of their health and wellbeing work for this term. The children prepared the fruit for their fruit kebabs using safe knife skills and also researched facts about a chosen fruit which included how much sugar, nutrition and vitamins you would find. They all had lots of fun creating them and had the chance to eat them after their P.E lesson. Great job Primary 4!

Physical Education – Fitness and Agility Circuits

Primary 4 started their fitness and agility circuits for this block and they were learning about why circuits are important when preparing for sports and the different skills and techniques involved when doing them. The focus for the children this week in the circuits was speed and balance and we also discussed why you need to take breaks in between activities to give your body recovery time. The children really enjoyed it and did very well for their first lesson.

Magnets Topic Work and Christmas Paintings

This week the children in Primary 4  have been very busy in the classroom! The children started the week by drawing and painting  a Snowman Christmas scene, the children were able to capture the snowy scenes modelled on the board. This was relevant with how cold it was in Scotland this week! The children had lots of fun doing this and will show off these paintings as they bring them home next week.

The children also learned about magnets as part of their class topic and the relationship it has with electricity. The children experimented in the classroom to see what things in the classroom were magnetic and could work with their peers to predict what objects they feel are magnetic. Well done Primary 4!

Whitelee Windfarm School Trip

Hi everyone,

The boys and girls in Primary 4 went on a school trip to Whitelee Winfarm in Eaglesham this week. The children went as part of their Electricity topic in the classroom and this involved the children learning about renewable and non-renewable energy and how we create electricity from it. The children braved the extremely cold weather and had a great time at Whitelee, they experienced the wind turbines in person and took part in exciting science experiments. Thank you to everyone involved and well done to Primary 4 for being extremely well behaved, I will upload the outdoor photographs next week.

I hope you all had a great time!

Outdoor learning and Circuit Components

The children had another outdoor learning session with a professional from East Ayrshire Council. This involved the children walking rounding the village identifying numbers they could see and linking this to time. The children also looked at pattern and shape and could identify the shapes they were drawing.

In Science, the children learned about the components in a circuit and this involved them working in pairs to sort the component with the correct drawing. The class managed to draw the symbols very well and could tell me what the component was used for.

Electricity – Circuit Building

This week the children have been learning about electrical circuits and the different components you might find in a circuit. The children were able to create their own circuits using a bulb, battery, switch and wires. Using their prior knowledge about electricity so far they were able to identify how they can keep safe whilst building their own circuits and had lots of fun doing this with their peers in the classroom!

SSPCA Workshop

This week the children had a professional from the SSPCA called Chris, who came into our classroom to talk about the work he does to prevent the cruelty of animals and spread awareness to the young people across Scotland. The children really enjoyed the workshop and Chris had a sorting challenge for them to do which involved sorting things that are good for an animal to those that are bad for them. All the children enjoyed meeting Chris and if they see an animal in distress in their local communities they will know what to do thanks to the wonderful work of the SSPCA!
