This week the children in Primary 4 have been creating their own beach plates, using different techniques to create the sea and the sand. The children painted half the plate and crushed cornflakes to create the sand effects. The class then created their own umbrellas out of cocktail sticks and card and managed to create palm trees as well. They all looked fantastic well done everyone.

The children this week have started a new topic in maths and that is learning about mathematical language and simple equations. The children went outside to the playground and used the ground as their jotters and created the answers in their pairs. They successfully used language such as greater than, less than and equal to in their answers and completed the equations with their partner.Well done Primary 4!

This week the children have been creating their own Chameleon mosaic as part of their art lesson, linking this to their class topic. The children used a range of collage skills including creating the pattern on the chameleon, using proportion for the branches and applying watercolour to the background. This week the children were learning about insects as part of their  minibeasts topic. The children learned about all the insects and they had the opportunity to discuss in groups the characteristics of the insect and what the predators would be in the wild. Sumdog Party

Primary 4 have been working extremely hard again this week in class and on Wednesday afternoon I gave them a well deserved fun afternoon after finishing 7th in the East Ayrshire Sumdog contest. The children enjoyed playing a class quiz, had the games box out and enjoyed listening to some music. Can I just take this opportunity to thank everyone for working so hard this term.

I would just like to thank everyone for all their hard work in the East Ayrshire Sumdog contest. 84 classes entered the contest and many having larger classes than ours however, this did not stop the determination of our Primary 4 class and we finished in an amazing 7th place. This is just a quick message to say I am very proud of you all and again thank you for all the hard work in the contest! I hope you all have an amazing spring holiday with your families!

Numeracy – 2D and 3D shape stations

This week for beyond number the children had 3 activity stations that they rotated every 20 minutes. The first station had a focus on 2D shapes and they used the concrete resources to pair up and take turns describing the properties of the shape, their partner would guess what shape. The second station as the design station and this involved the children drawing different 2D and 3D shapes and labelling them with their properties. The final station was similar to station 1 however it was focused on 3D shape and using different language such as vertices to describe their shape. Well done Primary 4!
