Adventures at Kelburn

Primary 2 had a fantastic time exploring Kelburn Country Park as part of our Owl who was Afraid of the Dark topic on Thursday. We began the morning with an interactive story session where the Park Ranger read us a story about a treasure hunt and used puppets to make the story come alive. We then had further excitement when they told us that there was real treasure hidden in the woods and we used our observational skills to hunt it out and return it all to the Ranger!

Next we went for a walk to find the famous Kelburn Castle – on the way we found a very climbable-looking fallen tree which we just had to have a go at!

After that we stopped for a picnic lunch amongst the trees and watched all the birds coming to hunt for leftovers (so we were super careful to pack up any rubbish!)

After lunch we had a go in the Wild West PlayPark – some of us made it all the way to the top!

Our final activity was a sensory trail where we hiked to the waterfall and used all 5 of our senses to experience the natural surroundings and discuss our observations. We were so concentrated and quiet that we even got to see a baby squirrel which had come out of its home to forage in the forest!

Finally it was time to visit the gift shop and hop back on the bus for home. Miss Corrigan and Mrs. Mooney were delighted to be told by the park rangers and the gift shop attendants that our children had lovely manners and were superbly behaved all the way through the trip!

Excellent work Primary 2 – we are so proud of you!

Wow Week!

We have had a super week in P2C. We have used our imaginations to write some wonderful stories about a Magic Pencil, we made our very own Pizzas to help us with our fractions and finished off the week with a whole-class game of Rounders outside to show off our  small ball skills!

We were very proud to be named Class of the Week during assembly and this week collected four new compliments from staff members about our lovely lines!

A huge well done to Zoe for achieving her certificate which she showed off in assembly and to Brogan for getting the #HotChocFriday letter this week!

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend with your families! Another brilliant week coming up soon….

Finger Puppet Fun

As part of our Toys topic, Primary 2 were challenged to design and make a finger puppet. It had to be colourful, have a face and be a person or animal. We used coloured card to make the base and then tissue, felt, sparkles, fluff and all sorts of other materials to add detail and texture.

We then got the chance to use our finger puppets to tell a story in a puppet show. We are so proud of them!

Science

We took part in an experiment investigating what effect different surfaces can have on how far objects can move.

We predicted what our results might be and then carried out our test, making sure it was always fair. We then compared our predictions to our results and were able to say what we had learned from our experiment! (We didn’t get to eat the Maltesers, though! )

Tartan Creations

P2C had a marvellous time creating their own tartan patterns. They used different sized strips of paper and carefully wove their designs together, just like in Robert Burns’ time! We enjoyed listening to some Scottish music as we worked, too.

Look out for our Terrific Tartans outside our classroom!

Firework Pictures

Primary 2W created these pictures as part of their learning in technology.  They thought about colour and pattern and came up with their own ‘sound’ words to describe the fireworks.

  • I can create a picture using a paint program.
  • I can add text to my picture using the text tool.
