P1/2 update weekending 28th January 2022

Good afternoon and welcome to our update about our learning.

We have been very busy, learning our Scots Poem, and thank for all your support to help them learn this at home to. I have been super impressed with their performances and loving the actions.

As part of our Scotland theme, we have been learning about who Robert Burns was and why he was famous, this week. We carried out a reading task using our reading strategies to help us learn some more facts about Robert Burns, we also learned how to make notes from watching a clip about Robert Burns too.

We have tried some foods (for those of us who wished too), and learnt a Scots song using our body as the percussion.

We have continued to learn about Scotland, finding out about the main cities and some of the famous landmarks.  We even designed Rabbie a new kilt.

In Literacy we continue to learn our new phonemes, and are using our say, make break, write strategy. We have been reading books to develop our fluency and answer questions to show our understanding.

In Numeracy

P1 have started to  explore number families up to 5 and what two numbers add together to make 5.

We have also been using a number line to add or take away 1 or 2 more within 20 .

P2 have been exploring and learning number families(bonds) for 11 & 12 and we have been rounding off our learning about place value, building and breaking (partitioning) the numbers into tens and units.

We hope you have enjoyed our wee update, we have been very busy and having lots of fun.

Home Learning Survey for Learners

Good evening,

As you maybe aware from the school app,  we are carrying out a homework survey to gather your thoughts about  your experiences and opinions about homework.  We want to improve learning at home so all feedback is extremely valuable.

The link  to the learners survey is below and is for the learners to complete as their experience and opinion is important as well.   We  would appreciate it if you could help your child to complete the survey.

We would appreciate it if you could complete the survey by Wednesday 19th January 2022.

Weekending 14th January 2022

Welcome back, and Happy New Year.

I hope you had a lovely Christmas break. The children have settled in quickly to our routines and learning after their break.

Below is a selection of photographs of some of the actvities that we have been carrying this week.

We have been consolidating our phonemes and tricky words, in Literacy and in Reading we have been working on our fluency and expression and using strategies to decode new words.

Over the next few weeks we are working on a Scottish theme, part of this will be learning a Scots poem and performing it in class. I have sent home a copy of the poem for your child to choose which one they would like to learn, and perform. I hope you will encourage and support them to learn it.   Also as part of our Scottish theme, this week we have been exploring where on the planet you would find us and learning that we are part of the United Kingdom.  We have explored the Scottish tradition of wearing tartan and in our Art lessons we are designing our own tartan by paper weaving.

In P.E. we are starting Gymnastics and the learners really enjoyed their lesson with Ms Corrigan on Tuesday.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and tune in again for our next update.

P1/2 Christmas 21

Hi, everyone

We have had a great and busy last 2 weeks of term, and are now quite tired but very excited for the visit from Santa on Christmas Eve.

We were busy practising and polishing our Nativity Performance which was recorded.  We are so excited to share this with you. We had great fun performing this. We hope you enjoy it too.

We have had a wonderful Christmas Lunch followed by an afternoon film treat and we have watched Aladin the Pantomime online.

Thank you to the Parent Council for our exciting visit on Monday afternoon to Winter Wonderland. We were so excited to see Santa and receive our gift. We had a good boogie with the DJ and then back to school.

To finish off our Christmas festivities we had our Christmas Party.  We played loads of games and had a wee boogie too.  We sang Jingle Bells and to our surprise Santa came to visit us as well.  What an exciting time we have had.

Below is  a selection of our Christmas festivities.

P1/2  and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
