Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’. This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class. The topic will change depending on the focus for that term. This term our Health topic is Myself and My Family. At home, your child should prepare and practise their talk. They can bring in photos or posters to help them.
Some ideas to include in their talk might be:
A photo or drawing of themselves. Talk about them – What they like? Dislike? etc.
Photos or drawings of their family. Who lives in their house? Any pets?
The talk should be ready to be presented the week bg Monday 22nd May. More details will be given shortly (please check Blog) about which day that week your child will be giving their talk. Talks will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
We had the first of our transition afternoons this week when the children from the ECC came for a visit on Tuesday and Thursday. The Primary Ones did a super job of playing with them and showing them around the classroom. They were helping them to build models, make things at the creation station and we even had someone reading stories to them in the book corner.
This week we have been learning about 3D shapes such as cubes, spheres, cones and cuboids.
Have a lovely holiday weekend and we will see you all next Tuesday.
Today the children were given a ‘Home Reading’ book. This is a book to enjoy and read at home. We do not cover these books in class. The children have an opportunity to change their books every Tuesday so please make sure they are returned on Tuesdays. We also talked a lot about looking after our books to keep them in good condition. Therefore books will be sent home in book bags. We do seem to have a few book bags missing so if you have lost it, please send in a note and we can provide a plastic wallet for books to be kept inside.
Another activity you could do at home is drawing or finding different shapes around the house. We are learning about a circle, rectangle, triangle, square, hexagon, pentagon, octagon, semi-circle and oval.
Children will bring home personalised Common Word grids today in their book bag. These are words that your child finds tricky to read and write. Please practise reading and writing these words at home. This can be done in a variety of ways, ie reading them aloud, finding them in books, writing them on paper/playdough/chalk outside, whatever suits! New grids will be given when they are confident reading and writing all 6 words on their board.
The children had great fun decorating their eggs for the Easter Egg competition. Their ideas were so creative and imaginative. Easter has been the theme in our class this week and the children have been making models of Easter bunnies as well as completing Easter themed activities and making Easter cards.
We hope you all enjoy your two weeks off and we will see you again after the holidays, ready for the final term of Primary One!
A fun-filled week in Primary 1. In maths we were learning about money. In the afternoons we brought out the dressing up box and had great fun role playing and using our imaginations. Mr McCreath gave us a huge box from a delivery and we had so much fun pretending it was a bus to Kilmarnock and then a ship sailing in the sea.
The children have been working hard in class to earn Dojo points and as a result of getting a total of 3000 points we had a disco party on Friday afternoon. It was so much fun! Well done P1 for working so hard!
This week for our Numeracy Homework, we are continuing to learn about money. It is called ‘Chinese Lion Dance’. Please complete and return by Monday 27th March.
We have also been enjoying playing Money games on the iPads and Laptops. Some of the children have asked to play these at home. You can click on the link below to play a variety of money games:
