Christmas Party

We had a ball at our Christmas Party on Wednesday.  We all looked so smart in our party outfits and we had great fun playing party games and dancing.

We were even joined by a very special visitor!

We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and can’t wait to see all the children again on the 9th January.

Week ending 2nd December

Well done to Ellie who won the competition in P1 for her beautifully bright jumper design on the “Be Bright, Be Seen” day last week.  Here she is with her winning design and her prizes.

Mrs Ferguson was so proud of Poppy this week for conquering her fear of the big slide at the park.  Just look at her go!

This week in literacy we have been learning the “g” and “l” sounds.  As well as practising the formation of the letters and making words with the new sounds the children also completed fun activities relating to the sounds. They drew pictures of Mrs Govans and Mrs Goudie, they wrapped up some gifts and built houses for Goldilocks and the Three Bears for the “g” sound. They sliced up some lemons and squeezed them out to make lemonade, they made some lemon lollipops and built ladders for the “l” sound.

In Maths we have been working our socks off with addition calculations.  We have been learning to use number lines and tools like a rekenrek to work out the answers. At the end of the week we focused on adding on 1 and 2 to a calculation which we all found super easy and I had to challenge everyone with some extra tricky calculations.

We have been working hard in the afternoons to practise our songs for the upcoming school show and we even managed to decorate the classroom on Thursday so we are all officially in the Christmas Spirit!

Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see you next week.

Week Ending 18th November

First of all, Mrs Ferguson and I would like to thank everyone who attended our literacy morning on Wednesday.  We know how hard it is to fit these things in around work and other commitments and we really appreciate those who were able to attend.  We love having you in the school and the children love showing off their learning.  We are so lucky to have such supportive parents and it really helps to strengthen the link between school and home.  Here are just a few pictures as we were so busy chatting we forgot to take more!

Literacy Superstars

The children have been learning the ‘c’ and ‘k’ sounds this week and have had great fun doing activities relating to the sounds.  We made Cards for someone we Care about, we typed our words on the Keyboard, we made Cakes, and Cookies with the Cutters and decorated them with Candles, we made beautiful Crowns fit for a King.

Here is the song to practise the ‘c’ and ‘k’ sounds.

In maths we have started looking at addition and Oh, My Goodness, the children have been absolutely AMAZING! We looked at part-part-whole models and used them to create our own calculations.  The children have been practising using the addition and equals signs to create their calculations. Maybe you could practice this at home, especially with the magnets that came in the Book Bug P1 bags that were sent home.

The boys and girls looked fantastic in their casual clothes and Pudsey outfits today.  We had a lovely relaxing time doing some Pudsey mindfulness colouring in this afternoon.

Week Ending 11.11.22

The children had a busy week again this week. Look at some of the wonderful things we’ve been doing.

In Literacy this week have learned the sounds ‘d’ and ‘e’. Here are the Jolly phonics videos to match.

There are lots of words you could make with these sounds. Here are some to try making at home.

You can try making the words with your letter cards and even try writing them out on your whiteboards.

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday for our literacy morning. The children can’t wait to show off all the amazing work we have been doing with our sounds.

A busy week in P1

We had such a great time at our Hallowe’en party on Monday. We did lots of nice activities all day including making potions and playing with the Hallowe’en rice and playdough.

In literacy this week we have been focusing on the ‘r’ and ‘m’ sounds and have been working hard to use these sounds to make words using the magnetic letters.

Here are the Jolly Phonics videos for the songs to help practise the sounds at home.

Please remember to send the book bags in EVERY DAY as there are currently only about half of the bags coming in and I am unable to add the new sound cards for them to practise at home.

Hallowe’en Fun

We had some fun Hallowe’en themed activities in class today as Mrs Cook is going to miss all the real Hallowe’en fun on Monday.  We had some lovely spooky pasta shapes and playdough, some purple, green and orange rice for making our own potions.  At our writing table we had a station for making Hallowe’en cards and at our creation station we were making paper plate pumpkins.  We also made spooky castles with the big blocks.  Some of the children tried some Art for Kids Hub tutorials on the big board and followed the instructions to make their own fabulous spooky pictures.

Week ending 14th October

We had a very exciting week for the last week of term one.  Our first in person assembly in years and the Primary Ones sat beautifully and sang all the songs so well. Mrs Ferguson and I were so proud.

On Wednesday afternoon we had our harvest hush-in and can you believe they all sat in silence for 30 minutes?!

In literacy this week we have been learning the sounds ‘p’ and ‘n’. We painted beautiful pictures with peppers, picked up pennies with the tweezers and built palaces for the ‘p’ sound and we nursed the teddies, made nests out of playdough, made nice necklaces and practised writing our name for the ‘n’ sound.  We also tried out the brand new keyboards and practised typing all of our sounds.

Here are the jolly phonics songs for this week’s sounds.

In maths we have continues to work on numbers to 20 and have really focused on 11-20 this week.

It was so lovely to meet you all properly and have a real face-to-face chat at Parents’ night on Wednesday. We hope you all have a lovely October break and we’ll see the children again on Tuesday 25th October ready to begin Term 2.

This Week in P1 – 7.10.22

I have sent home some letter cards with the children today.  They include the sounds we have learned so far (a,t,s & i).  Please practise these sounds as often as you can.  You can remove them from the treasury tag and use them to start making words as shown in the picture.  So far you can make words like; sat, sit, at, it, its and by next week you’ll have another two letters and will be able to make LOTS of words!

We need these sound cards to be kept in the book bags, so if your child didn’t bring theirs with them today then I haven’t given them out.  Please make sure you send them with the book bag EVERY day as we need to be able to add cards to the bags a couple of times a week.

This week we have focused on the ‘s’ and ‘i’ sounds. We have practised writing them and have even started making words with the sounds. Here are the songs to practise at home.

In maths we have continued to focus on numbers to 20.  We have been looking at the numbers before and after with the Numicon

We have also had great fun playing with the large construction and have made some super models this week.

This Week in Primary One – 30.9.22

We have been doing lots of fun maths activities this week. We are working on numbers to 10 and 20 so we have been ordering Numicon, making numbers with the Rekenreks and we challenged ourselves to make models using only 8 bricks as we were focusing on the number 8.

If you fancy doing any maths activities at home, you could focus on counting up to 20 and trying to identify the numbers up to 20.  The following link has some great games for counting and ordering practise.

We started learning our sounds this week and we focused on “a” and “t”.  The children learned some rhymes to go with the sounds which can be sound by clicking on these links.
