Last week we started learning about Subtraction so this is a fun way to talk about numbers getting smaller/less. It is called Roll Over . It should be completed and returned to school by Monday 6th February.

We absolutely love being down the ‘Wee End’ again in our new classroom. Here are some of the areas we have in our class. We have a cosy book corner with our own couch, a new loose parts and block play area, a maths area and shelves full of games and puzzles and an even bigger creation station as that is one of our favourite areas.
In Numeracy this week we have been working on subtraction. We started by looking at taking away one and realised that this is just “the number before” or “one jump back on the number line”. When we looked at taking away 2 we could see that that was just “two jumps back on the number line”.
In literacy this week we learned the ‘h’ sound and the ‘w’ sound. We have had great fun playing at hospitals and wrapping each other up in bandages.
It’s been a lovely first week back after the holidays. The children have worked so hard. This week we learned the ‘o’ sound in literacy and we practised the number bond of 10 in maths. The number bonds of 10 are the addition calculations that make 10 like 5+5, 9+1, 4+6 etc. in class we refer to them as the ‘best friends to make 10’ and the children are super at identifying the correct pair of numbers.
