Transition Tree Questions, comments and answers

Hi Windsor, it’s so lovely to hear from you. We can’t wait to welcome you to our school. It’s great to know that you are looking forward to seeing your friends – I bet they can’t wait to see you too.

Our friends in the ECC aren’t far away from Primary 1 at Whatriggs and they will always be thinking about you. When we first go back to school we won’t be allowed to have extra visitors in the class because we have to keep 2m away from other people. However, Tracie has left you and your friends a video message, have you seen it? It’s on the Transition blog. Tracie is the last person to speak on the blog. We can’t wait to see you at school when you start!

Hi Katie, please don’t worry! Every year we have children who start school and are worried about meeting new people and before they know it they have lots of new friends and love their teacher. Our teachers are kind and caring and always want the best for you. They won’t only teach you to read, write and count, but they’ll also help you to make new friends and feel happy and comfortable in school. For some children, it does take a wee bit longer to settle in, but we all get there. Our teachers are desperate to meet you. We’re hoping to have you up before the summer to meet some of the staff and have a wee taster of school. We hope you can join us.

In the meantime, have you seen the video of our staff introducing themselves? Have a look at this and it will help you to get to know some of the faces.

Meet the Staff

Hello Mia, thank you for writing to us. It is lovely to hear from you and especially to know that you are super excited about lots of things to do with school. We are super excited to see you and get to know you. Don’t worry too much about not getting to see Erin, school will be quite different for a wee while when we get back so there will be less children in; but your teacher will make sure that you make lots of new friends. If you don’t get to see Erin at school straight away I am sure you could leave your teacher a message for her to tell her that you are asking for her or you could arrange to meet her safely outside of school.

We can’t wait to see you Mia!

Hi Paige, thank you so much for writing to us! We are really looking forward to seeing you at school. Please don’t worry about your friends and meeting new people. One of the first things that you will do when you come to school is get to know everyone. You will have a lovely teacher who will look after you and make sure everyone in the class know how to become friends. We have put up a video of some of the staff to help you get to know some faces before you start. We hope you can watch this. We can’t wait to see you!

Meet the Staff

Hello Megann, I am so sorry to hear that you are scared about coming to school. We are super excited to welcome you and can’t wait to meet you. We are going to make sure that we look after you really well and that you have friends to play with. There are a couple of things that you can do to make yourself feel better about coming to school. Have you watched the staff video? This will help you to know some faces before you start. The staff are all very friendly. You can also have a look around the school and classrooms.

You will need to be brave at first but most boys and girls who are a bit nervous about starting school end up loving it. We hope that you will too!

We can’t wait to see your drawings, we will make sure you get plenty of chances to draw if this is something you love. How great is it that you are looking forward to meeting new friends too! Some of our other boys and girls are a bit nervous about meeting new people so maybe you will be able to help them? You sound super friendly and you could be the person to go up to them, say hello and ask them to play.

We can’t wait to meet you!

Hi Aria, we are super excited to welcome you to our school and are pleased to hear that you are looking forward to it. We are sure that you will do super. Our P1 teachers are working hard to get ready for you and we all can’t wait to meet you.

Zac – I am sure they can’t wait to see you too.

Hi Olivia, thank you for your message and your question. Please don’t worry about not seeing your friends. You will have lots of lovely friendly classmates who will be looking to make new friends too – and I’m sure there will be some familiar faces around.

Here are the teachers’ favourite colours:

Mrs Boyd: Turquoise

Mrs Walls: Yellow

Miss Khalid: Red

We are also waiting to find out who our fourth P1 teacher will be. When we know, we will be sure to find out their favourite colour 🙂

Our last primary ones ate their lunches in the dinner hall when they first started – although things might be a bit different when you come. We will keep your question in our minds and let you know before you start.

Did you know that everyone in Primary 1,2 & 3 gets a free school meal? We have lots of things to choose from. Follow the link to see the menu. If you choose, you can also bring a packed lunch from home.

Hello Marcus, it is so lovely to hear from you. Mr English can’t wait to meet you and all the other children too. The rest of the staff are also super excited to welcome you to Whatriggs.
Some of your message has got a bit wet so we can’t make out all your questions but we’ll have a guess at what we think you’re asking.
You asked about computers and iPads. The boys and girls in Whatriggs love having a shot of these and you will get a shot too. We lent a lot of our things to other council workers to help them work from home during the lockdown so we will need to wait until we get these back before we can start sharing them with you. We will also make sure they are clean and safe for you to use.
You will find out who your teacher is soon. All our P1 teachers are lovely and take good care of their children.
We would like you to wear a school uniform, but understand that it might be a bit tricky to get your hands on it during lockdown so we will understand if you can’t manage.
I’m a bit stuck with your last question, I think your mum is wondering if there will be a lot of home learning? There will be lot of things for you to do at home and your teacher will keep you right with this when you start in August. We are still waiting to find out exactly what school is going to be like when we come out of lockdown.
Thank you for all your questions Marcus. We can’t wait to welcome you to the school and get to know you properly.

Hi Noah, we’re super excited to hear that you are looking forward to playing in the pitch. Do you like playing football at home? There are lots of other games we play in the pitch too and we can’t wait to share these with you.

Please don’t worry about making new friends. One of the first things that you will do is get to know everyone you will be working and playing with. We also have lovely teachers and classroom assistants and they will keep an eye on you to make sure you are never feeling lonely. All the new children will be looking to make friends too, so there will be lots of chances to make friends. We can’t wait to see you!

You will see some of your friends in August when school starts again and those you don’t get to see straight away you will hopefully see in the not too distant future. But don’t worry because when you start in Primary 1 you will make lots and lots of new friends and the teachers and other staff will make sure you always have someone to play with in the playground. We will spend a lot of time getting to know each other. We are so looking forward to meeting you!

Hello Iona, it is so lovely to hear from you we have heard so many nice things about you from the people at Shortlees. Starting school can be quite a scary thing at first but we know how brave you can be. I’m so glad you have let us know how you are feeling because we can keep an extra eye on you and help you to make new friends. Mrs Walls is going to be your teacher and she is so nice and friendly. Have you spotted her in the staff video?

We are so looking forward to meeting you Iona and we know you are going to be great at school and will settle in.
