Virtual Tour

This is a virtual tour of the school designed to be taken by the child with the parent/carer together, to prompt discussion and curiosity.

Here are our Whatriggs friends, do you recognise any of them? You might know some of them from your Early Childhood Centre.

We’re going to take you on a tour of the school, some of our friends have been hiding in the school. Have a look at some of the photos to see if you can find them.

When you come to school you will come from the front gates or the back gates:

Have you seen these gates before? Which one is easiest for you to use? Can you take a practice walk from your house to the gates? You could even visit the Transition Tree on your walk.

Here is the main entrance to the school – you will only use this if you are late or going on or returning from a school trip. Parents and carers might use this door if they are coming to visit you in school or if they have a meeting. Click on the picture to have a look around and see if you can find any of our friends.

We try to encourage you to walk to school or come on a scooter or bike. If you come on wheels you can park them in our bike stand until home time.

You will go in through the back door of the school, this is also where you will get picked up at home time.

Remember to keep to the marks on the ground for social distancing.

For most of your school day, you will be in your classroom with your classmates and your teacher. Your classroom will look something like this, although there may be some differences to allow for social distancing:

What can you see in the class? How is it different from nursery? What did classrooms look like when parents/carers were at school? What things can you name and recognise?

Every day, you will have a playtime and a lunchtime. This is where you will play. This area is only for primary 1.

What areas would you like to explore? What games could you play here? Who could you play with?

Two times a week you will have gym and go to the gym hall. Here you will play games and get better at things like throwing, jumping, running and catching.

Here is the big playground, you will do some of your learning here. This is where the bigger children play at playtime and lunchtime.

There will be an even greater emphasis on outdoor learning due to the Covid-19 situation. Therefore, please help your child by ensuring that they have suitable clothes and footwear to allow them to take their learning outside, every day.
